    How do you procrastinate?

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Ehdom, May 13, 2008.

I think we can all agree that procrastination, at least on some level, is universal.

I'm curious to see how everyone else procrastinates. Do you procrastinate only on certain things (and as a result are more productive on other things), or is it just an overall procrastination?

For example, if I have to do something for someone else, I'm far more likely to be motivated to work on my own projects. If I have no deadlines coming up, I actually am less motivated to work on random project. Not a very helpful habit.

    The internet doesn't help.

Heh, I flowcharted the process awhile back:

So... How do you (or how do you not) procrastinate?

You know for me it isn't that I procrastinte... it is more like there is always something else I would rather be doing. In my opinion, to procrastinate you put something off simply because you do not want to deal with it.
That isn't it for me...I just don't think much else about it...LOL!...

Yes, I actually had quite a lot of "official" things to be doing while I was making that. Whoops.

    And thanks :D

Haha, that flow chart is brilliant! :p
I usually procrastinate by going out and driving somewhere for mundane errands. That way I feel like I'm doing something important, but I'm just avoiding work.

Bwahaha, that is excellent! I especially like the "Are you hungry? Yes ---> find food. No ---> find food." Ditto.

I tend to watch endless Law and Order re-runs or refresh forum pages a lot.

    i don't!

reason is, i go by the idea that everything i do is done when/how it's meant to be, thus i'm never 'late' or 'lost' or 'on the wrong path' and so on... that's worked for me for over a dozen years now, and all i need keeps dropping in my lap whenever i need it, so i figure i must be 'meant' to live this way...

if something i'm doing is interrupted or delayed for any reason, i just accept the delay and don't agonize over it... i know when i'm 'meant' to get back to it, i will... it's the most stress-free way to live you can ever imagine... just try it and you'll see!

    love and hugs, maia

Whenever I go online I like to think of it as 'research' and sometimes I don't get a lot accomplished. Although its not truly my fault-it's Myspace's.
Its not an excuse though-if I wasn't there, the whole system could fall apart:)
In truth-I have many excuses-every one of them as lame as the other.

That flowchart is the best thing I have seen all day. The food thing especially is straight from my life!

Normally, I drink a Fuze, talk to people, or watch an episode of BtVS. Or all three. (Ah, the wonders of the internet!)

So awesome that you made a flow chart.

I consider myself the queen of procrastination. Ever since I was a young child I've always been a horrible doddler. To this day, I get distracted easily and my mind wanders into like the strangest ideas for several minutes at a time. I have to basically bang my head up against a wall in a fit of rage and tell myself to concentrate on one thing at a time. The only way to fix it is to organize my thoughts with brainstorming activities or something, but even then I'd probably go completely off topic. It's a vicious cycle!

When I have two things to do and can't possibly put them off.
I do the one that will keep me from doing the second until the first is done.
ex. pots and pans to wash in the sink. dishes in the dishwasher.
well I turn on the dishwasher and since it isn't built in,
it means I can't do the pots and pans for a while so I get to go and do something fun.

I sit on msn, watch a film or come on here... In fact I usually do all three at once. Sometimes I go for a drive.

Thanks to the modern age of multitasking, of course she can!
But more importantly, can she do it while battling NINJAS?!
...cuz, y'know, that's really important. Seriously.
