I have spent about 3 months creating a fictional city for my story. The currnet name right now is Darmont city, its mostly origianal but has elements of Hong Kong, Chicago, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, and New York City. any suggestions?
Well, about what? If you want constructive critique we need to know more about Darmont City, or you could tell us what you feel are the 'weak points' of your fictional setting.
It's your story. If you're not feeling good about the name as it stands, use it anyway and just write the story. You can easily change the city's name at any time. Seriously, if you are this stuck on something as arbitrary as the city's name, how will you deal with the harder choices you will inevitably encounter?
Erm, we need to know more about the city. Is it set modern/future/past? Is it set in a specific way (e.g. modern, cyberpunk, sci-fi, fantasy) It is real with the possibility of something being wrong (a la Matrix?) Is it just the figment of someone else's imagination? Is it a computer based reality?
Umm, The Emerald City of Oz? Besides, he appears to be asking for name suggestions ("the currnet (sic) name right now is Darmont city...")
3 months on a city? Am I the only one that sees a problem here? Darmont sounds more like a school name to me but I guess schools carry the name of the city. I personally enjoy cities with 2 words like Hong Kong and Des Moines.
Cog, just had to ruin my fun. As for the name, I have no issues with it. It sounds like a real name for a city.
Actually the original emerald city wasn't actually green but it was an effect caused by the spectacles the wizard forced everyone to wear, mgm took it literally and it has since become the accepted norm. that being said though that is the only coloured city i can think of, maybe go for a blue or red?
1. You spent that long, you MUST have something ... 2. What makes you say it has elements of all these cities? Have you researched on them or been to them? and 3. Why does it have elements of so many cities? (If you think you can say so ...)
