Four books - although strictly speaking he's not a token black guy, there's a bunch, but he's the only black PoV character

The story is about ghosts, so most of them. :) There are two deaths where the character doesn't reappear in any fashion, and one of them (the main character's mother) happens about ten years before the start of the story, and is probably the most important event in the story in the influence and effect it has on the other characters.

1/3rd of the way through, one tertiary villain and one tritagonist. Let's just say that the tritagonist may or may not stay dead.

I've killed off five in the first twenty pages, by the middle I killed off about fifteen, and by the end of the book, they'll all be dead. But I have tons of characters and it's pretty fun to kill them off actually

I had a protagonist that I no longer needed so I just had him hit a tanker truck and die, and I moved on with my story. That wasn't good enough for my characters who kept wondering what really happened. The whiny basterds (two of my main characters) made me go back and write it as a mysterious vehicle pushed him into the tanker, and now we have a bit of tension.

:fight:I rarely ever kill off characters because I HATE when characters die in books and movies because I feel personally connected to them. (although,I know sometimes it is necessary for the story)
In my current book I only killed one because the story required it so I have no regrets. However, as far as I know I won't be killing off anymore.

    I like this question.
But do you mean killed off as in murdered or died of old age?
I'm my current WIP two important characters die an untimely death. One extra dies of old age but who cares, she's an extra and she's old.
Haven't killed any main characters yet. In due time.
No regrets. Their deaths cause an impact, even the extra old lady.

She's an extra and old. Not that I'm partial to old ladies, but I do get reprehended for saying 'old lady' by the other half.

Maybe she was right when she said that grey hair is the new leprosy.

Should we call out, "Grey hair, all young people stand back!"

Counting the number of extras who have died as well after 41,000 words:
    • 6 soldiers confirmed dead
    • 3 soldiers missing, presumed dead
    • 1 intelligence agent missing, presumed dead
    • 2 hooligans dead
    • 3 surveyors dead (ish)
    • 3 alien soldiers dead
    • 1 tertiary villain dead
    • 1 tritagonist presumed dead
    • Total = 17 humans, 3 aliens, 20 sentients
That's quite the body count now that I think about it. Presumptions are from the standpoint of the protagonist, who saw a few of them wounded severely before being left behind, for example.

    In 130k words.
    - 1 Important Character.
    - At least a few hundred undead monsters.
    - 1 Likeable Character.
    - 1 Final Boss, killed by a Side Character immediately after Final Boss kills Likeable Character. Side Character, a friend of Likeable Character and a minion of Final Boss, shoots him in the back of the head, saving the world a LOT of grief.
    - 2 Important Backstory Characters.
    - 19 or 20 Internet Trolls who tried trolling Alien Tech Support, got transported to a Deathworld.
    - Possibly a few hundred people caught up in said Alien Tech Support's rampage.
    - A few million people ( off-screen ).
    - Lots of White Supremacists, killed in the Goblin Invasion of America.

    More I can't remember.

Kill your wife’s lover and it's murder. Kill her lover, his dog, the landlord, the postman, a chair and a dresser drawer and you’re crazy, and you could get a couple of months in an institution.

I made this list from memory actually. Though I think I’ll keep tabs in the future. It is quite a fascinating statistic. :ghost:

One more amendment to the list too, now that I think about it:
    • One non-sapient lizard monster, dead

It is an amalgamation of glove and love, since I was wearing gloves when I made the heart
with my fingers. Bit of a pun of sorts. :)

I've never killed a character, but I've killed off an entire species. No regrets so far.

Of the 12 MC I have over 3 books, I have killed all but 4. 1 of 3 in my first book, 4 of 5 in my second, and 3 of 4 in my third. So I suppose you could say that I have a thing for killing my MC. I also truly don't know how many side characters I have also killed off. I should be noted that no one in my stories, even though they are high fantasy, ever comes back from the dead; if they are dead, they stay dead, I one regret killing them on behalf of the characters i left alive.

Hey, I was just kidding. Not getting any younger myself.

But to clarify, what I meant by "who cares" is that 1) she's an extra and 2) she's old and dies of old age. That's the context.

Somehow I didn't get an alert for this thread and I didn't see your post before now.
