A common recommendation seems to be to write what you know emotionally. I can’t write what I want, so I’m thinking about changing the conflict to reflect a similar emotional struggle. Here’s an unskilled longline for what I’d write: “A conflicted wife and mom decides whether to continue the status quo or start a new life on her own after reconnecting with an old friend turns steamy” What are some conflicts, characters, or storylines that could stir up similar emotions? In other words, how do I write about me without writing about me? I’ve seen people suggest this strategy, but I’m lost when it comes to implementation.
