Hi all, Got two characters in my novel, both female, who swap bodies. Thing is, am not entirely sure as to how to write this. Would much appreciate some suggestions. thanks.
Are you looking for help on how to generally handle the situation throughout the book? Or the specific swapping of the bodies in a single scene or two?
Not sure what aspect of this you're finding challenging. Why not have a go at writing the piece and submit to the Workshop? People will tell you if it's working for them and you can then home in on specifics. I think you're going to need quite a lot of internal monologue describing how strange it feels in someone else's body. The first thing they're going to want to do, is check themselves out, close up. This may be disturbing or entertaining, depending on how they feel about the body swap (accidental, intentional etc.) The voices of your characters will probably need to be quite different - speech and internal thinking, to highlight the change for the reader. Behaviour, posture, habits. You'll want to bring those out, both people different, as with the speech. Does anyone else know that they've swapped bodies. Is it a secret? If so, there will be challenges in imitating each other's behaviour and speech. There will be slip ups. There will be 'memory lapses' where things they should know, are strangely 'forgotten'. Is one a party animal, the other a health nut, what would the implications be if they have very different lifestyles. How would the shift affect each one? Just some stuff off the top of my head.
[QUOTE="Friederich Kugelschreiber, post: 1753715, member: 82395" just the general swapping of the bodies in maybe one or two scenes.
You could get help from searching articles on how to write about description of your character, there are couple of sites who have example specimen of it too.
