    1 EL-uh-deer (or EL-ih-deer).
    2. TAY-lin (at first I thought Talon, but that sounded odd. I think it's the "I" that made me think "long A".)
    3. VAY-ro.
    4. ED-el-MEE-ra (I keep seeing this as Eldemira - it's certainly easier to pronounce :p)
    5: PRAY-thos.

    1. HIG-yoti
    2. Kinda like LOON, but a shorter syllable.
    3. nor-THREY-yar.
    4. SLAY
    5. tray-AL-es.

    1. DLIN-vah-ko.
    2. hi-NA-ra.
    3. JAN-zi-ka.

Most fantasy books (I've read) come with a handy dandy guide at the front of the book as to how names should be pronounced.

That said how would you instinctively pronounce this name?:

    Kore.

    Yep.

That's what I was afraid of.

    It's Kor-ree. Like Nike.

It's the central protagonist's name so it concerns me that people will be pronouncing it incorrectly. Though I am loath to spell it Koree just to avoid the issue.

Well that's a hard one to guess.
Kory would work a bit better than
    doubling up on the e's.

She's named for Kore, one of the moons of Jupiter. All my characters are named after something astronomical or meteorological.

    Kore Tides
    Leda Saros
    Erin Novaya
    Kozai Hotaru
    Frederick North
    Charon Forel
    Simone Radiant

I'm hoping that my readers will recognize the naming theme and be compelled to look up the potential meaning behind the names and come across the proper pronunciation of Kore on wikipedia or the like.

I never intended the series to have broad appeal. It is very niche. I feel that I will attract the kind of readership who would appreciate the authentic spelling of Kore and be kind of disappointed if I changed it to Kory. That's assuming I get any readers at all :p

I can see where you are going now, at least with the themed names.
Pretty neat idea. Also there is always somebody who will read your
stories. You won't know until you put it out there. I use to feel the
same about my first novel. It takes time when you are starting out.
Me I will give anything a go, as long as it is not about Vampires or
Zombies (so over done they are burnt). :p

(By the way don't change it as it would ruin the aesthetic your going for.)

    Thanks @Cave Troll,

It's not about vampires or zombies.

And now that I've been prompted to describe it I don't know what my elevator pitch is. The general aesthetic is neogothic cyberpunk. It's about a broken planet. Literally, physically broken into parts that continue to orbit around the core.

Also, I never knew how much I needed to just hear some encouraging words until you gave them. I know I'll find readers but I've been stressing about this name. If you think it works given the other names I'll keep it as is.

    @hawls Most welcome! :supersmile:

Sounds interesting. I have never read a Steampunk before.
Listen to a bit of the music though. :D

Could you work her name pronunciation into the story somehow?

Is everyone in the story familiar with where her name came from or is that just an Easter egg for your readers? If the second, you could easily have someone mispronounce her name once near the beginning and have her correct it.

If everyone knows where her name originates from, maybe her friends have a little rhyme for it. I can't think of one right now to help though....

Or! You could occasionally have people call her Kor as a nickname. That, for me anyway, would drive home that they're cutting off a syllable, so I'd know to add the e sound to her name from then on.

There's ways to make it work. Don't stress. :D

    1. Elidyr = Ell - eh - dear
    2. Talin = Taal - in
    3. Veiro = Vee - ro
    4. Edelmira = Adele - me - rah
    5. Preithos = Preh - thos
:3 I always wonder if I am close to the author's intentional pronunciation when I read fantasy names ahah!
