Hello all, I suppose this will be my first and last attempt at a new member introduction. Hopefully, I won't make any newbie mistakes and break the forum's protocol with my first post. How I found writingforums.org: I was linked to this forum through a google web search and within a few moments of browsing, I saw how this community provides a great environment for writers to discuss, discover and explore their art. How long have I been writing? I started to write around four years ago, I was going through a very tough time in my life and what was just a pencil one day was an obession the next. Writing is what has taken my hand and led me through desparing times. Also, I'm very interested in the stories about how everyone has discovered their own passion to write.I sincerely hope I'm accepted here and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. P.S.I'm creating a blog with more unnecessary new member creme filled ranting. Hard to resist? I know. And for those chosen few of you who will choose against visiting my blog, you should know that I commend your amazing willpower. Even if it's a little misguided.
Hello, welcome! Wonderful introduction, it is nice to see someone who respects rules! There aren't any which are that strict anyway, except for reviewing two pieces of work before posting your own, but that's only fair! And helpful With regard to how you began to write, I think it's wonderful I have only begun writing recently, and my girlfriend is the reason. Until around a year ago, maybe slightly longer, I never even read books (apart from goosebumps when I was younger!). I always considered them pointless, always being so involved with film. The first book I read was "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A savage journey to the heart of the American dream". She bought me it, as it was a favourite film of mine, to try and get me to partake in something which she loved, and I love her more and more each day for it. It served as my introduction to this fascinating world! Hunter S. Thompson is still my favourite author, and rightly so, in my opinion at least, but its strange. With books, I seem more open. I read and I write about different topics which usually would never have interested me if it were on film... Anyway, enough of my rambling. Enjoy the forums!

Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum).
