Slate's interesting... neat idea. Yeah, sound is nice, usually value that, but Felix sounds so much more... free-spirited? Out-going, cheerful? But that's just b/c of its Latin meaning, the happy-felicitous thing (and a remote connection with a character that was named Felix expressly because he was so joyous). If that's another part of his character you want conveyed, it's a great fit. Slate... if he's a little more like grey things than sunshine.
Which is why I thought Felix Faustus would be an interesting name -- Faustus is a Roman cognomen with exactly the same meaning as Felix. Plus, it is an alliteration, and I love alliterative names.
Well his personality doesn't really fit these names. He's zany at times, but he is also quick-witted when it counts the most. He's also a bit messy and will tend to slip up from time to time. Also at first he's a bit shy, but once he knows someone he's very outgoing. Probably not for any of the main characters, but maybe a supporting character somewhere along the way.
Zeki? (means quick-witted, but maybe that's also the effect of the adjective zany?) http://www.babynamespedia.com/meaning/Zeki (there are also variations of it on the site to play around with).
What are they? When I vote, the poll simply disappears. Sometimes I feel like it's mocking me... You know, like, "Here's a poll... HAHAHA Gotcha!!!" Edit: the results showed up after I refreshed the page lol
Hmm well if you want playful I'd go with something with a lot of syllables and a weird rythym. Maybe even odd hyphenation Felix Ruppersberger Felix Shattenheimer Feix Pfeffenheizer Felix Fitzgerald Felix Fitzmaurice Felix Fitzroy-Crump Felix Felton-Schatz Felix Pfessenkrantz
If you know your characters racial and cultural traits then there are plenty of websites that compile lists of region based names. For instance when I created one of my characters for my current piece, a half-vampire named Skender, I used a list of Transylvanian names that were uncommon.
Yeah I don't like how they're alliterative it sounds a bit weird saying Felix Fitzgerald... well at least it feels weird to me. I would rather have a last name that doesn't relate to the first name at all. Skender: The Eight Pages :3 Besides that side joke. I personally don't feel I should need to go on a goose hunt to find the perfect name for my main character. Besides I've already tried a few sites like that in the past and none of the names on there clicked for me. Could you maybe link me to some of the sites you use.
Describe your character. I have only skimmed through this so I didn't see if you mentitled any of this already but what is your protagonists race? Place of origin? Is this a fictional setting? If so what is the culture of his home? Letting me know this wI'll help me narrow down places for you to look.
Felix Bartholomew Abernathy-Scrump. Great-grandson of Ambrose Aloysius Abernathy, founder of the Abernathy Scrod Mining Corp. of Nevada. Most miners in Nevada mined silver, but Ambrose saw an opportunity - nobody was mining scrod! He found a rich vein of scrod, haddock, and other fossilized whitefish in the mountains north of Las Vegas and made a fortune. Young Felix now commands a legacy worth over three thousand dollars, and is contemplating the purchase of a riding mower to enhance his after-school lawn care business. He is innovative in business: unlike most kids who mow lawns, Felix sells the grass clippings to farmers to use as cattle feed, and also to veterinarians to use as a dog emetic. I'm bored again. You can tell, can't you?
