No worries. There was a time when I was here often. Reading others posts and asking basic questions about organizing thoughts, developing a story line and learning some of the legal "do's and dont's". I recieved good advice which I applied. The entire process took years but I finally got through it and was blessed to finally find a publisher.

Now I have lots of work to do in order to step up sales. I also have to find time for normal home stuff AND working on my next novel, which my publisher is trying to pull out of me. Lol. In a good way I mean.

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement.

    Thanks.

It's been an interesting ride since it came out. Initially it held in the top 100k (overall nit a specific genre) with some days hitting top 25-30k while the paperback ran slightly lower. Then as I take time for other activities such as travel or family things, it'll slump somewhat. As soon as I get back into a store for a signing, have someone add a review or have a story hit a local paper...etc, it'll recover nicely in the rankings.

Helping readers find it amongst the millions of other books out there really does take a lot of time.

You know I hadn't realized it was inside the top 1000 in suspense and war/military on Amazon today until after reading your post. That's pretty cool.

What a thread to read on my initial day here at the forum. I don't have any attentions towards being published because I've never finished a story or article long enough to be published (not for fiction at least), but it's fantastic to see that someone has realised their dream and that you are now doing the thing that you've wanted to do for so long. I wish you all the best with it. Get your best paparazzi poses worked on ;).

Hi @Gottagocit did you have an agent, or did you deal directly with the publisher?

Also, did Patriot Media handle your Kindle launch for you, or did you do that yourself separately by working with Amazon?

Do you mind giving some of the details of the contract, generally speaking?

Like, was there an advance offered or no advance? Is the percentage you get equal or less/more for paperback VS ebook sales? How often will you receive payments (every 180 days, annually?)

Congratulations, I am very happy for you. :)

I did not have an agent and the publisher did handle the launch of the Kindle edition for me as well as the paperback.

Sorry but I'm contractually obligated to not discuss details of the contract. However you can search the web for typically details found in most first time authors and what you can expect to receive.

I will say that the work required to sell copies of your work is just as difficult, if not more so, than writing the novel in the first place. It has to be a labor of love because odds are very much against you making serious money as a writer. It does happen but it can't be expected for most.

If you read Lincoln's Treasure I hope you enjoy it. There's an email address found on the 'About the Author' page where you can write me and give me feedback or ask questions.

    Best wishes,
    Chris

Woohoo, congratulations! That is a huge accomplishment! :) I like your tip about meeting publishers in person, not just relying on the Internet. Can I ask how you approached the publisher at the show and led the conversation to your book?

I read the sample pages at Amazon. I think your skills are excellent. I found no faults and saw technique that comes from someone who understands how to write and make a good story. Best luck to you on all of your projects!

That's really great to hear. Thanks for taking the time to buy and read it. Thanks also for the kind words.
I'm biased as you can imagine but I'm very proud of the story and feel it would make an awesome movie.

    Take care,
    Chris
