Hi, my name is Victoria My story is probably quite familiar. I chased the money instead of my passion - and I felt the empty hole inside me always. I took a big step to quit my job after suffering near burnout, and have taken a decision to focus for a year on writing full time. I must admit it is daunting, I have read so many blogs and advice to writers that its almost impossible to make a living from writing unless you are REALLY REALLY LUCKY or HAVE CONNECTIONS etc. etc but you know, I have spent my entire life scared, and I am going to try make a go of it anyway. So I hope to find some inspiration and encouragement here on these forums, and I hope I can also inspire and encourage others. Thanks for reading
Welcome to the forum, Victoria. I'm new here myself, but I love it here. Best of luck with your writing over this next year.
Ballsy move? Yup. Silly move? Maybe. If you never try, you'll never know what could've been; sometimes you just have to take a chance. Good luck and try to not take things so serious you scare yourself into writers block, it's an easy trap to fall into.
I tried that. Didn't work. Writing got worse, not better. Too much time, not enough structure, too many new problems, not enough cash.
Welcome Home. I prefer to look at it as it is very difficult to make a living writing fiction, but never forget there are many, many forms of writing. If you apply yourself you can make money in a lot of those other areas. Writing is writing and it all helps when it comes to writing stories. If you can write a page that connects you to your audience, that can transfer over to fiction writing. Since you have time, take a free class online for screenwriting, it can only help with writing stories.
Thank you all for replying and making me feel welcomed, and also the tips and advice - I really appreciate it
Go forth and succeed! Remember that to be successful is to merely be good at something. Making lots of money is merely a byproduct of success.
Welcome , and bold move - don't regret it whether it works out or not. I try to live by the adage that it's 'better to try and fail than not to try' Joanna Penn's blog the creative penn is a good source of inspiration and info ... she did what you've just done and it worked out.
Congrats on your decision! Now you'll have to keep us posted on your writing throughout the next year, blog maybe? ha Either way I wish you the best!
I'm inexperienced in anything on the production and sales sides of writing, but I wish the best for you. I'd say just write what you love and be satisfied with that. If it doesn't work out the first time, you can come back to it again later And welcome to the forums!
