    I won!!!

This is what it looks like when you win first place.

That's me at the Florida Writer's Association Royal Palm Literary Award Banquet as I realize that my book, The Brazos Formation, won first place for unpublished science fiction. Super-happy.

FANTASTIC!!! Congratulations. Many of them. This will open some doors, I'm sure. Well done.

    That is so cool.

    Royal Palm Literary Award

    Hope you don't mind:
    I like the premise. :D

Last year's unpublished book of the year is set to be published by Alibi-Random House early next year. I'd say that was some good cred for the award.

They don't show an unpublished sci-fi from 2016, but unpublished mystery, 2nd place was indie published and looks like Amazon sales are good.

I think this is an excellent accomplishment. You are on your way.

Thanks for the responses. I don't have any promises of publication or anything like that. It's pretty much a prestige thing and a nice sentence to put on my query letter. Hoping this will get some requests for manuscripts.

That's so cool! Not to sound like a creeper, but did anyone catch it on video? Because cool.

I don't think anyone got video. My wife was snapping pics of the screen, so she didn't even get my face. Its too bad because, as you can see, I looked like a little girl winning her first beauty pagent--squeals and everything. A moment of pure childlike joy.

You should do a reenactment, then, because seeing a grown man squeal like a little girl winning her first beauty pageant would really, really help us all to become better writers.

It would also help you all learn to become better pants-wetters and shoot-milk-out-of-my-nosers.

This is the one whose beginning you had up in the Workshop, right? Neat, neat, neat! Llongyfarchiadau! (That's 'congratulations!' in Welsh. Nothing less will do.) :cheerleader::cheerleader::cheerleader:

Great Job Matt! I remember reading your first chapter of this work. I really enjoyed it but I think you were going to change it. Anyway, I thought it was a great read and I am happy you got some recognition for it. Keep writing my friend!

    Thanks! :)

Several years ago I posted a short story in the workshop. That short story was the embryonic beginning of THE BRAZOS FORMATION.

No, I think this was more recent. Don't tell anyone, but it may have been a case where you appended a bit of it to illustrate a question in one of the general forums, and people went to town commenting on the story in general.

Actually, it was in the Querying forum, now that I look it up.

Ooooh yeah. I remember that. Yeah. I posted the first bit when I was thinking about changing it. I deleted it all with my merciless pen of editing (it's a +5 greatsword, actually--little DnD humor there for you. Free of charge.)
