Just read this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-22015175 Not good. Not that he's likely to see this, but my sympathies go out to him and his loved ones.
I heard about this before. It's a huge shame. I must admit I've not read his stuff, and he's low on my 'to read' list, but still. Always a shame when a writer is in a bad state.
Was saddened to read this and seeing it on the news last night I have only read a handful of his books but I cant remember ever disliking one. Very sad news. James Herbert recently died too, very sad. Sympathies to them all.
This is awful. I enjoyed his Culture series immensely and it influences me a lot in my own attempts at writing. I was actually awaiting the next book eagerly, but... damn. It's always the good ones that die too soon. @Ian J.: But there is a way you can send him a message and he'll probably read it, too. There's this page that's been created especially for messages from fans. http://friends.banksophilia.com/
Wow. I'm a bit shocked. Iain's died quicker than previously expected: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22835047 RIP
