Instead of giving me infraction after infraction for advertising my work here, why not create a sub forum category where people can advertise their work. That would keep the rest of the forum ad free, and the writers could promote their work and bring in new members and readers to this website. PS I think SPaG errors should be called spaghetti errors because it sounds funnier.
I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it would give people an opportunity to read other members' articles, stories, etc. But it would also be an invitation for people to register, post one thread about what they've published, and never return. It might also attract spammers.
A way to avert this: Why not apply the same criteria required to the writing workshops to a media exposure thread?
This forum is not really meant for advertising, it's meant as a place to improve your writing. If you just want exposure, then sites like fictionpress.com and others are better suited than here.
There are pros and cons to everything. Personally, I like the fact that there is no spamming on this site, but should they decide to introduce a media thread, I think requirements should be instigated. Higher numbers of contributing posts and critiques, as well as being a registered member for more than the probationary two weeks. You want feedback and exposure, you should have to earn it. This site is honest and well moderated with a minimum of trolling. Those who can't or won't follow the rules are taken to task. It is a pleasant change from some of the other forums I've been involved with. A huge part of that is the controlled ad content and moderation of the attention seekers.
The other obvious answer is that if you wish to advertise, you have come to the wrong place. This site prohibits advertising, and to many, it is a positive feature of the site. That way we can focus on the craft of writing, and how to improve it. No sales pitches, no scams, no sleaze.
What's the point of having a site that focus's on improving the craft of writing if you can never show anybody what you have written?
Every music site I belong to allows me to post my music, every art site I belong to allows me to post my art, this site allows you to do none of this.
If you want to improve your writing, and help others improve theirs, you can post on the Review Room. If you just want to advertise, there's a whole big Internet out there, and I'm sure that plenty of places will let you do so.
Since I didn't get everything I wanted when I clicked my fingers, I'm going to throw my toys out of the pram and storm off.
Can we please not turn this into a 'goodbye loser' thread? Keith cannot take criticism, and reacts to it with hostility, thinking we are belittling him, so actually poking fun isn't going to help anyone. Disclaimer: No Keith, I'm not calling you a loser. I was just describing a type of thread common on the internet. What I am saying is you can't take criticism and if you get mad at that you have only yourself to blame.
