...if anyone cares i'm stoked! [as the kids say]... a sweet and gorgeous sri lankan gal i've been helping for years with translations of her beautifully-illustrated pb's has insisted on giving me an incredible 70th birthday gift and wouldn't take 'no' for an answer... so............... ...i'll be leaving my peaceful island next monday, for a week's visit with my kids and grandkids in [ugh!] las vegas... AND............. i hope you're all sitting down for this............. i am NOT taking my laptop!!! ... which will make this the first actual 'vacation' i've had in too many years to count... so, when you don't see any of my nagging nit-pickery here for a while, or don't answer your emails, it's not 'cause i've finally been allowed to leave this poor, benighted, human-made mess of a world, darn it but just 'cause i'll be off in sin city, playing 'mommy and grammie' for a bit... love and bye-bye hugs, maia
We will miss you but enjoy the time with your children. I am glad she wouldn't take no for an answer. luv and hugs.
Happy birthday Maia, and may you have MANY more! I hope you and your family have a wonderful time in Las Vegas, although I must admit, I would love to be a fly on the wall watching your reaction to the glitz and superficiality of Las Vegas. It seems such a contrast with the core values implied in your writing. Have fun! Your friend, NaCl
thanks everybody!... what a swell bunch of friends 'n forummates you are!!! you wouldn't see much reaction other than disgust and resignation, kiddo, 'cause i was a change girl on the fremont hotel slots [only job i could get, to do my 6 months' time for divorce #1], then lived [i referred to it as 'being incarcerated'] there for over a dozen years [having met now ex-/late-hubby #2 while shedding #1] as part of nevada's 'creme de la creme' [='d having to rub shoulders socially with the mob biggies], had to raise all of those 7 kids there and escaped to the east coast calm of connecticut with the youngest 2, as soon as i was able... if my youngest [and favorite, i have to admit] didn't live there and wasn't afflicted with several godawful life-shortening diseases, i'd never go back... long story not short enuf... hugs, m
Mammamaia, Anyplace you're with family and good friends, it can be fun and memorable. Bring a good book for the flight and enjoy yourself. Terry
Wow, that was a lovely present from the girl who you help. I hope you enjoy yourself, I would love to visit Las Vegas. See you soon. Heather
Hope you have an ejoyable time maia. We all know that you have changed so much since your time in that place and have become a much better person for it. But I am sure that you will love seeing your family again. And they will love to see you again as well. I do so hope that you find the time with your family, most wonderful and pleasantly rememberable. Just try to block out most of the surroundings and you will survive it. Best wishes to you. See you when you get back. Torana
