Canada is a good idea for isolated regions. That country is larger than the United States and yet has a lower population than South Korea. Other examples of vast isolated regions are Australia, Russia, Iceland, the Scandinavian countries, Finland, Mongolia, New Guinea, Congo, Madagascar, the Amazon region, the Guiana Highlands, etc.
