Wait, how did I get here? (Oh, and hello!)

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by E. C. Scrubb, Jul 23, 2012.

A good question actually. A little over a year ago, I decided write a little bit of fanfiction for no other reason than to improve the flow of my academic writing. Something happened however, and I have so thoroughly enjoyed writing, that I've now bought and read through a few different books concerning writing and editing, searched the internet over for tips and pointers, and have even come out of the fanfiction closet to my wife! I let her read the story I'm currently writing (a Harry Potter fanfiction) and she was mad at me for three days for making her cry.

Other than that, here's a few small things about me.

Favorite type of literature: Epic fiction, whether techno-thrillers like Tom Clancy, or fantastical worlds like Middle Earth or Narnia. I also enjoy historical fiction.

Favorite type of literature to write: So far, I've only written fanfiction in the Harry Potter world. However, I have a A/U historical fiction and an epic fiction in a different world bouncing around in my head that I may get on paper someday (when I feel like my writing is good enough to express what is in my brain).

Background American, grew up in the northwest, and been exposed to few different cultures, though not nearly as many as I would like to be.

What I enjoy the most about writing: It's my world! All those daydreams, stories, and what-ifs I am forever playing out in my head, I can write on paper.

Biggest stumbling block: A.D.D. I love it, I hate it. When it comes to proofreading, I despise it!

Hope that gives you all a small look at who I am.

BTW, if any of the moderators/staff are reading this post, I tried to start an account with E. C. Scrubb, but after 24 hours I still hadn't received an email (I admit, it was Sunday. I was just too anxious to get on the site - see biggest stumbling block!) Tonight I used a different email and changed my name slightly. Of course, then hitting upon the rules again, I realized just how much of a mistake that probably was, so I do apologize!

Welcome to Writing Forums, E C Scrubb!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.
