Here I come, dashing through (what used to be the) snow

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by cmshepard, Dec 5, 2012.

    Hi everyone,

I bet you'll never guess that I'm an aspiring author, nor that I love to write!

I'm 23 and live in the cold state of New York... No, not the city. I suppose you could call this place Canada. Almost.

Anywho, I favor the fiction scene but have been trying to dabble in more realistic areas. It is hard, but I'm making it... Kind of. I write short stories for practice, amusement, and feedback. My novel in the works has been seen by NO ONE. It may be far too embarrassing to let anyone read, but I may someday make a go of it.

I'm an avid reader and gamer extraordinaire. Fallout, Skyrim, Mass Effect, Fable, and quite a large group of others stain my Xbox history. No sense in not being proud, eh? That's not mentioning I just bought a Gameboy Color to play Pokemon on. Yes, it's that bad.

I do work full time and have taken to posting my stories on my blog (ok, my ONE story that I wrote yesterday in half an hour, work with me). I am working on another "short," but I won't spam you over to there. Not just yet.

I get too wordy, I use too many commas, and I am far too fond of the semicolon. If you get past that you may like me.

Hope to see y'all (I'm an Army wife from TN, not a local to this godforsaken snow-hole) soon!

    Welcome to Writing Forums, cmshepard!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirements. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.

A female gamer? Quite rare with the frogs down here. I never liked the north in general (I have relatives in Sweden), I don't like the cold.

Glad to hear there's someone out there who's still wordy.

Thanks everyone! Yes, I've heard that female gamers don't much exist... I am one! I tried WoW (just to broaden my spectrum to the land of the computer), but didn't much care for it. Well, actually I loved it but unfortunately don't know anyone else who plays so I gave up. My guild (yes, I joined randomly) was useless so that fizzled fairly quickly. I cannot wait for a new Fallout, though. Fallout is my absolute FAVORITE!!!

Wordiness is considered a good thing? Since when? If you could hop on down to my high school and college English/Literature/Composition teachers and tell them it's not a complete and tragic ending I would forever be your friend. I'm very glad that not everyone turns their head to it!

Anywho... Yes, the north is awful! I like the small-town like aura of this place, but the weather is just complete garbage.

    Thanks for the welcomes. =-]

Wordiness is nothing other than the true mark of a writer. Don't let 'current trends' deter you from letting loose. I for one want to see you unleash your entire salvo of adjectives.
