Hello! My name's Roger, and at the age of twenty seven I've made what now feels like a slightly self-indulgent decision to write a novella. I'm only around one thousand words in and I'm already finding myself mired in doubt. I was hoping this community could help me in my journey, and that perhaps I could, possibly, help others in theirs.
Welcome! I'm sure you'll find some source of help here. It's not a bad place for writers-in-need to head!
Don't give up Rog, we all have been there. Take a small break and then return, it gets better, (I hope) lol
I have quit several times only to find myself back to writing a month later or so... its kind of different now because I have a website and I have like 1000 fans that download my stuff and visit my site regularly. So, that fanbase keeps me goin.
wow, i guess that would be quite motivating. I think i just need to feel like im not wasting my time. Not really so much as i need people to love it, i just need to feel like its somehow worthwhile. I don't know! I've been trying to post in the Novel section but it says I dont have any permissions. What does that mean?
um there are regulations you need 20 posts and have to review several other peoples works to post in there
Welcome Roger. Don't worry, I thought the same when I first started to write the novel I am in the middle of now. When I first started it I panicked and thought it was utter rubbish, but now I'm 50,000 words into it and I am loving every minute. Just take a break and let the idea brew inside your head for a while, then write out some scene outlines. Get used to the outlines so when you come to writing them out in full, you already know most of what is going to happen in the scene, you just need to choose how you want to write it. Hope this helps and I hope you have fun while you write.
Welcome! I know how you feel, I've been on and off working on a novel for about 5 years now. It gets rough sometimes. I wish you the best of luck, and don't hesitate to ask for help!
iF you keep trying, you'll get there. Im only 14 and i know how it feels to doubt. I do it all the time. Expect your alot farther then i am.
Hello Roger, Welcome to the Creative Writing Forums. Please read How to Use the Writing Workshop before you try to post there. Posting your own writing for people to comment on should not be among the very first things you do here anyway. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. Also, be aware that posting a piece of writing on any public site, including this one, will greatly diminish your chances of selling it for publication. Removing the writing later does not alter that fact - once posted, it is irreversibly considered published. So do not post anything more than a small excerpt of any piece you are planning to submit for publication. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Writing Workshop, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Writing Workshop, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. We also impose a two-week waiting period before you may post writing for critique, to give you time to become familiar with what is expected and how the site operates. The Writing Workshop forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Writing Workshop forum). Also, please use the same thread for all revisions and additional excerpts from the same piece of writing. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out the RPG forum for improvisational fiction. Also try our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
