And you need a theme song. It works for James Bond. Whenever things get difficult for him, the orchestra just offscreen starts playing his theme song and he's EMPOWERED and comes through. Get yourself a theme song - life is easier with musical encouragement. :)

I just downloaded some apps to help pick up the basics of Mandarin

It's actually how crazy helpful knowledge of Japanese kanji is.

For instance, Mandarin has two characters for tā meaning "they"—a masculine and a feminine. And technically it's so easy to see the difference, like how the tā 她 for "female they" has 女 as the first part of the character. Also the word for father bàba 爸爸 has 父.

So it's nice having a bit of leg up.

Now I'm just waiting to screw up eventually by using words or expressions or character readings in the other language. I remember how I kept saying the Korean word for butterfly for months and completely forgetting the Japanese name.

I already know I sound awful currently pronouncing any of it, completely leaving off the later struggles of ū ú ǔ u ü distinctions.

    You're absolutely right.

I always only get myself pumped or in the mood by singing/humming some other character's theme.

Everyone who knows me can vouch I'm a real character. Obviously I need my own theme, just for me!

    Thanks minstrel!

(Also, you can sing Amazing Grace to the tune of Gilligan's Island—in case anyone wanted that in their head).

"Yep. It's been pretty steady so far today," said Wrey in a hushed tone so as not to draw the attention of The Fates. "Came back in the wee hours this morning. Now we have José to deal with. The outer bands are just now raining on us. Models predict it will go north, tho."

Yay good to know you weren't too badly hit.

A friend of mine has just got warning orders for his unit to deploy to the BVI to help with the disaster relief out there

Tortola's not looking too clever either , and if the damage wasn't bad enough they've also got about 100 prisoners on the run after the prison was partly destroyed - apparently British police are deploying to help round them up and generally keep order

There are still many areas of Puerto Rico without power, and I expect it to come and go over the next few days as they find and repair issues. But, by comparison, these are mere inconveniences.

I was just jolted out of the sofa by a huge crash of metal on metal. Two cars had collided and ended up at least 150 yards apart. One car is a complete right-off.

By the time I got to the window to investigate, at least twenty people had swarmed from houses and pubs (many in night clothes) and were running to the car that took the brunt of the impact, and at least half of those people had their phones held out in front of them, filming the scene.

What a mad world we live in.

All this tech and lack of thought, has made most people observers in the game of life.

I'm more concerned by the fact that they were in the pubs in their night clothes :D

I wonder if there'll ever be a time when privacy and alone time will be considered crimes.

I think the Anti-Privacy Police will still burn pretty well, and they can
take a selfie while running around unable to quench the flames that
    consume them. :p

Few things make me more livid than seeing people around a disaster, reporting on it rather than helping others in it. There's a time for the dissemination of information, but there's also a time to put the f'in cameras down and lend a helping hand.
