Less so than with your head in their lap, I suspect.

Even if we're both fully clothed?

You must work somewhere very formal.

So a couple nights ago I'm on YouTube watching a 2006 Discovery Channel production exploring what would happen if Montreal experienced the Ultimate Ice Storm. Let's leave aside the fact that it was more melodrama than science, and that the characters in the show did some pretty inexplicable things. I'm sure it was all scripted in for the shock value.

What's bothering me are some things that were depicted as fact or outright stated by the narrator to be fact. Can anybody explain to me why:
    • The radio broadcaster character (who seems to be doing her show out of someone's living room complete with a window over the street and not out of a proper sound studio, and who seems to be the only source of weather information in town [!!!]) has to beg her off-site supervisor more than once to let her tell the citizens just how bad the storm is going to be and how long it will continue. I thought that would be her job. Would the authorities really censor weather information like that?
    • It's the fourth day of the storm, three-quarters of the citizens are without power, the metropolitan area is all but cut off from the outside world, resources are dwindling, and only now the mayor gets around to declaring a state of emergency? Canadians are resilient people, but isn't waiting that long a little foolish?
    • The narrator declares that in such a storm, the bridges off the island(s) would be closed and no one would be allowed out or in, so no supplies could get through to aid the citizens. As he says this, the visuals are of totally-clear, traffic-free bridges, blocked only by a rope or chain and a cop car.
This last one was what got me most of all. You'd think that they'd want to let anyone out that wanted to leave, to reduce the strain on the limited resources. And assuming they could maintain traction, you'd certainly want to allow trucks with food and fuel supplies in. If not private suppliers, then food convoys organized by the Canadian version of the National Guard. But no. According to this Discovery Channel scenario, the poor citizens of Montreal would be cut off to suffer and freeze and starve. Yeah, the Army is mentioned as showing up, but only after seven days of freezing rain and another day of heavy snow and high winds. Really? What's Ottawa doing all this time? The program doesn't say.

In real life, Montreal (and the rest of us in the Northeast) is supposed to get hit with 30 cm of snow this weekend. Let's hope the response is more sensible than depicted on this program.

Due to the vagaries of the internet and my VPN, there was nothing more that your text visible when I first loaded this page. I thought it was tremendously clever, but now I need to see what's on the vid...

May Enlil have mercy on your soul :)

I wonder if there's anyone at The Huffington Post who could explain to me why I should give a fat rat's ass about what Cardi B thinks about anything?

I'll do you one better in wondering who or what a Cardi B is. Singer? Actress? Famous for being famous a la Paris Hilton? No clue, don't think my life is worse for it either.
