Anyone seen this brilliant film? If not - you should watch it. Its amazing on so many levels - its about a young man that abandons society after seeing what the effect of capitalism has on people. A must watch!
Yep, and read the book. I don't remember it having anything to do with Capitalism, but I could be wrong. Materialism, more like. Anyway, yeah, they're both incredible.
Yes, the book is great. But I caution youngsters from following the footsteps of the main character because he had psychological problems. The kid could not cope with the stresses of society, so he escapes into nature abandoning all ties with his family, and eventually sucuumbs to the wilderness. He is naive, shallow, egotistical child who only cared about himself, and I was not surprised at what awaited his fate. I have no sympathy for this guy, and what he made his family go through.
His family was a mess - fights and the like. He just wanted to escape away from society and the materialism in it. I don't think he was shallow or selfish - just unprepared and juvenile. He may have been damaged from his childhood but I doubt he had proper mental difficulties.
