So fair use still exists! Yay!

    (I've been developing doubts, lately.)

What was the Author's Guild's actual objection? Did they really think they'd lose sales, or was it a sort of toddler "MINE!" thing, or something else?

OK, I realized I can Google. Looks like they didn't want to shut it down, they just wanted royalties?

Yeah. But it's a Fair Use issue either way, and if it wasn't Fair Use and they were entitled to royalties, they'd also have the power to shut it down (unless you had some kind of compulsory license, I guess).

Yep. I was just trying to figure out why they cared.

It's interesting to see how old law is adapted to new circumstances. The Second Circuit decision stands now but if another circuit decides differently the Supreme Court may decide to hear the case at some point.

Is this why Google Play has been accepting no new entries of self publishing lately? Maybe it will finally clear up soon.
