Is this a book that's aimed at a mass audience? I had to look up who "Damon Salvatore" was, and I don't think I'm TOTALLY out of touch with pop culture.
If you are talking about Vampire Diaries, no, both Salvatore brothers have been killed and brought back from the 'other side' at various times in the story. Damon and Bonnie were in some weird purgatory that they came back from along with an evil witch twin and the Salvatore's mother. I've quit watching though because the story has become very stale.
