    The Watchmen

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by holdwine, Jun 2, 2007.

There has been some discussion in other forums about the adaptation of the comic book Watchmen. My take is it can't be adapted, it will, like Finnegan's Wake was, but, there's no point in doing that.

    So, what are your thoughts?

The Watchmen ring a bell but it's a faint bell... can you please tell me more about the comic?

Very grim serial by Alan Moore (Comic-writing GOD) about a group of superheroes in "real-life" (i.e. no superpowers, just unregistered crime fighters running around in costumes) who have retired for a long time after the government outlawed such vigilantes due to their decline in popularity and, well, sense.
It's got plenty o' gore, grimness, sci-fi, mystery- and it's an absolutely amazing book.

I think that yes, it could definitely be adapted into a movie. The newspaper/magazine articles could be read as a voice-over, as could Rorschach's diary. The acting and special effects would be easy enough (Although the whole thing would be rated, at LEAST, Restricted.)

It's hard to move from paper to the big screen, no mater what you're doing. Either way, I'd, personally, like to see an adaptation of Kingdom Come...

No, I think that's one that needs to stay firmly where Alex Ross put it.

First thing to give it a respectful adaptation would be making it into a series.
And, I mean, for those who've read the comic, how would someone adapt the "Fearful symmetry" issue? You can't. but it is important for the theme.
Watchmen is a work in which the aesthetical elements constantly dialog with the thematical ones.
