    Hi all

Delighted to make your acquaintance. I write for a living but it's dry, technical computer stuff. Audience of 10 people, normally. They're interested in the detail, but not the English. I, on the other hand...

I'm a devoted family man in my 50s. Lovely wife, two fantastic, well-adjusted kids.

But I have Multiple Sclerosis (never start a sentence with 'But'). It's taken my mobility and most of my energy though it hasn't (as yet) taken my cognition or ambition. Time has come to write the book I've been promising for 20 years.

I actually took a few months off in 1999 (before the family) to write a blockbuster. Quite simple really; you've never heard of me, though.

I have some ideas - a tragi-comic adventure thriller of romance, death, accountancy and Belgium, written in Chaucerian prose but with a nod to Julia Donaldson. Might need refining.

Any input will be very gratefully received. I'll try to help you out where I can; as long as you don't mention Llanelli.

    Welcome!

Gotta admit, I love your sense of humour.

Hope you stay here for a while.

I do have a question, how would you write in Welsh? Is it possible? I'm really curious....

Hey Samlet! Welcome to the forums.

Sounds like you've got lots of ideas, and that's half the battle. I'll make sure to check out your stuff when you're eligible to post it :)

    *cant help himself*

    ....Llanelli.
Is it like Beetlejuice? If i say it three times does the entire population know where I am and come hunt me down?
    ...Llanelli.....

........ Lla ...Nope, I just can't do it. They'd spoil my supper.

Hi @Samlet, and welcome from me!

I have just completed a world tour of Yorkshire and am in Chester about to tip a tentative toe into Wales. Llangollen rather than Llanelli, but there surely can't be that many places with so many L's??

ETA - couldn't complete the poll because it isn't multi-choice. Maybe e) all of the above (c:

My kids are bilingual in English and Welsh, but sadly I have to ask them to translate for me when the need arises.

'Cenedl heb iaith, cenedl heb galon' - A land without language is a land without heart (though in Welsh, 'iaith' translates to a bit more than just language and encompasses culture, poetry, prose and song').

The less you know about Llanelli, the better for us all, good boy. It's a godless place, too far West to be of any importance. They say they eat babies there. Mind you, the beer's good.

I'm enjoying your writing already! I've been to Wales, about 30 years ago, and loved it. Absolutely lovely place, friendly and helpful people. I've always wanted to go back. Our destination was Treorchy, for business purposes. But trying to pronounce the road signs so my driver would make the correct turn was not a huge success. We usually ended up in the wrong place, the windscreen spattered with saliva.

I have since learned that the double-l is usually pronounced 'chl'. (Like 'chlorine.) Only a bit softer. Which is a bit easier to manage! :)

T'was a tad embarrassing, as some of my ancestry is Welsh. Name of Jones. Who am I related to? Those folk you're supposed to be keeping up with, apparently.

Welcome to the forums. Hope you'll find a good home here and enjoy the company.

Where in Wales are you from? I've been to Wales multiple times and been inspired greatly by the Wye river valley. It was the first thing I've seen from Wales & a beautiful place nevertheless. No wonder it's one of the AONBs in the UK. I lived in the north of England for three years before moving back to the continent.

Ho fellow traveller! I've heard tales of people living in whales, but always thought it was mere myth:

Hope you're doing alright in there, and getting enough food. You might want to stay battened down for a while, there's a pandemic going on out here.

The Wye Valley is a lovely area, but I live very close to the original AONB, the Gower Peninsula. It's a fantastic place.

I mean, yeah, obviously there's a canal going over it... with no ****ing safety rails... It was all I could do to walk across without my legs turning to jelly, and I don't mean the good firms stuff, I mean wobbly, pointless jelly!

I believe the Welsh are very proud of showing off their scenery. I mean, they're always saying "look, you".

Oh, we went there a couple of years ago when my daughter was singing in the Eisteddfod up at Wrexham. It's called Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, built by Thomas Telford, I believe. It's f87king awesome, well worth the trip, look you, isn't it.
