My weakness? Workaholism and trying to please the boss. My family usually suffers but as far as Im concerned the boss is my God.
Job interviews can be nerve-wracking, but with the right preparation, you can make a great impression and increase your chances of landing the job. One of the best ways to prepare for an interview is to research the company and the role you're applying for, and to practice answering common interview questions.
I have had over 100 employees over the last 45 years. Tell me two things. You have the ability to learn what we are asking you to do. While you may be from a similar work environment and have the needed skills are you going to be able to get up to speed the way "We" do things. No two jobs are the same, being able to learn how this company works and you are able to increase the bottom line, are all that really matter. Do you play well with others? Nobody wants to hear, "Who hired this asshole?" Don't make me look bad for hiring you, convince me you have the ability to fit into the workplace and not be disruptive. Subtle thing that always mattered to me. I liked to hear that someone was happily married and passionate about some hobby, it could be anything. Those two things often meant they were stable. I have been fooled a few times over the years, but the simple stuff always never seemed to be so simple when your livelihood depends on someones ability to deliver and adapt.
Interviewer: All your evaluations state; "you take direction poorly". Me: That's actually a misprint, I think. What I really said was; "I take stupid direction poorly".
Interviewer: What's your greatest weakness? Candidate : Honesty Interviewer: I don't think that's a weakness. Candidate: I don't give a shit what you think
On one of my interviews I suggested to the boss that we workers should have a wrestling competition for a certain position. I still got hired.
