    Jussie Smollett Charges Dropped!

Discussion in 'Entertainment' started by EBohio, Mar 26, 2019.

In a shocker, all charges against Jussie Smollett are being dropped. The judge is sealing all the records and wiping his record clean.

His atorney said the public rushed to judgement and blamed the internet.

    ....developing

He's forfeiting his $10K bond. Not something I'd do if I was innocent.

But it's Chicago; what can you expect?

The judge is wiping his whole arrest record clean. I have a feeling that means he gets the bond back.

    ETA: I guess not. https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2019/03/26/jussie-smollett-charges-dropped/
Oh well, what's a thousand dollars to him (1k is all you put up on 10k bond)

The news said he forfeited it as a condition of the charges being dropped.
He's basically paying a fine without admitting guilt.

It said he "volunteered". I'm not a lawyer so seems strange. If the record is being wiped clean is all that would matter to me, but I'm not famous. He's a celeb...people will always know.

This matter has already cost the court, and therefore the public, a great deal of money. Dismissing the case is probably based on a lack of evidence either way, but it's still to his advantage to end it now, even at the cost of the bond, rather than continuing to pursue it with lawyer and court fees mounting daily.

It would be a mistake to draw any conclusions of his actual guilt or innocence based on the details of the dismissal. In a legal sense, he is innocent regardless of what actually transpired.

You give the bailsbondsman 10% for them to loan the full amount the court. But if you forfeit you have to pay the full amount.

Completely inappropriate. The charges were dismissed, period. All official sources should respect the courts instead of undermining them.

You can't keep ordinary people from speculating, but the police, mayor, and District Attorney's office (etc) should know better than to make such statements after the case has been dismissed.

They should just launch an investigation into possible corruption. Because, after all, it's Chicago.
Well, maybe there's federal charges that could be filed. Did Smollett lie to the FBI?

There are federal charges and they still stand. He faked a hate crime that's why there are federal charges.

Utter garbage. At the very least (and this is being extremely generous), Jussie lied about events that have happened. His story still makes no sense, and screams hoax.
