    My introduction

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by gilchrist, May 8, 2013.

I'm twenty five and I was just diagnosed with bipolar disorder. It has been hard for me to accept that. Earlier in my life I served in the army, and I just had to drop out of college. I was two semesters away from graduating, but when I return I will have to change my major. I was studying Russian before I had my breakdown. I'm not quite sure what else to say, other than I live in Austin, Texas. I have always enjoyed reading and I think that writing is the outlet I need. I have had to let go of most of my old friends and have had to begin life after college much sooner than I anticipated. I hope that maybe I can get to know a few of you.

Thank you for your service to our country. Grew up in a military family and nothing but respect for those who serve.

Perhaps it's more of a time away from friends, a pause as life sorts itself out. Just as you at 25, old friends will grow older then the time will come when a reunion will beckon. It's the power of friendship. Just the way it is with old friends regardless of what's been said or what's been done.

Life sneaks up on you. At 10, one year was 1/10 of your life. At 25, one year is 1/25 of your life. Time is very relative. The older you get....The faster it moves.

Austin is a beautiful place. Been through it a few times. Can't help but think of the Austin City Limits concerts. I'm Irish and Texan by birth but an Alabama Redneck by choice. At least I'd like to think that I had a choice in that one. Never really know.

Russian Major, Army Vet and living in Cowboy Land? Yes Siree Buddy! Think I'd like to read a story or two.

    добро пожаловать

PS Just copied that from google translator. Hope it reads welcome.

I too studied Russian language and literature as an undergraduate. Govorite po rusky? There is a dearth of discussion about Russian literature on the forums, so maybe we can start a new trend in the Books area.

    Welcome to the forums.

Welcome gilchrist. This is a great place to discuss writing and just about anything else as people here are very friendly and always happy to offer advice. I know from experience that writing can be very therapeutic and, if you do it right, a lot of fun.:)

    Welcome to Writing Forums, gilchrist!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirements. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills. The requirements of the Writing Workshop don't apply to the contests, so new members are allowed (nay, encouraged!) to get stuck in and enter! We also have a growing short story club (think book club, but with short stories!), which you can find stickied in the Book Discussion forum.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.

Hi friend! We are about the same age and both live in Texas. I'm sorry about your ups and downs, but you seem like a strong person, and I bet these trials will just add to your knowledge! I know this is different, but I battle with anxiety, so I know how it feels to not have complete control. I really look forward to getting to know you better, and seeing/hearing your writing style! I hope you are having a great weekend!
