Hi there! I'm Leah, 28 years old hailing from Kansas, USA. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to write a book. Recently I was struck with that I think is an original idea and I've decided to start this daunting journey. I've been madly searching for resources and support as I'm "winging it". I'm feeling inspired, excited and terrified. lol I have high hopes for this forum and it's members helping me along this path.
Hey there, Leah. Here's the New Member Quick Start to get you going. I think most of us are winging it, discovering the questions we did not know needed asking. That's what's great about such a community. Glad you joined. Wrey
Yo, You're from Kansas? I live in Wichita. Small world. Once you reach the appropriate requirements for posting a story I would be happy to critique it.
Thank you Wreybies and GingerCoffee. Yes, Gabcy, I have lived here all of my life, even spent a few years in the Wichita area. Been in Lawrence for the last 8 years or so.
Hello and welcome, I have learned or well at least I feel like I have learned a lot by reading all the feedback under the workshop. This is a great forum.
LOLeah, Glad you joined us. Keep chasing that dream. It's the only way you'll catch it. Keep writing and learning and pressing ahead.
I am doing just that right now. Under my introduction here, I mentioned that I had finally came up with something I wanted to write about. I am happy to say that after I published it on Amazon last Saturday 2-28-15, that I was lucky enough to sell 24 copies, my first week. Which as completely inspired me to write something else. This is time instead of a how to guide, I am writing more of a story. I hope it is not the death of me.
Wow @KaitysDad that is awesome to hear! Congratulations! This one idea has really taken hold of me. It's going to be a historical fiction/fantasy novel (possibly a trilogy) and being in the research stage the more I learn about the place and period I've chosen the more thrilled I am. I have SO much work to do before I'm even ready to start writing but I feel drunk with it.
LOLeah, To save you a few years of learning how to write your story, I suggest you get this book, It has everything about writing you will need to know: Stein on Writing by Sol Stein ISBN 0-312-25421-0 If you will be seeking an agent for a standard publisher, start reading Writers Digest, and learn how to write a query letter...I would suggest you start writing the query letter along with your book...it can take a year to write a good query.
Hi LOLeah. I empathize with you on "chasing a dream" and being excited about the future interactions on the forum. It's awesome that you have an original story concept. It's so hard to come with one with so many influences.
