    The Silent Downpour Checks In...

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by QuietStorm81, Dec 7, 2012.

Greetings all. I'm Mark and I live in Atlanta, GA. Currently I'm working on a novel I've begun during a novel writing month and I have a bit of a idea where I want to go but I didn't really do a lot of plotting and designing of it. I just wrote a lot of words and am now trying to put it all together into what I dream of it in my head. Hence my coming here and wanting to enlist help.

Also, I want to write more in general and need challenges and such to inspire me to write. I'm convinced I've not written enough in my life to get out of the bad writing phase so I need to do it more to get well. I've done a lot of stuff on Fanfiction.net but want to do original stuff on FictionPress down the road.

I'm into touch rugby, digital art, digital music, cooking (my trade), gardening, and basic maker type stuff. My dream is to be able to write and make and support myself in ways that don't involve me punching a time clock for someone else.

    Cheers!

    Welcome Mark =)

Could that by any chance be the NaNoWriMo you are talking about? =)

You and I seem to have come here for quite the same reasons, so if you want someone to discuss your ideas with, I would love to help =)

Hi Mark. Sounds like your novel is starting out in just the right way.

    Welcome to Writing Forums, Mark!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirements. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.

Actually it's the shortest novel writing month of the year, FebNoWriMo. Did just over 50k words in 28 days. Brutal. But I'm glad to have done it and want to do it again next year. That or ScriptFrenzy.

I will definitely chat you up as I need some help taking the scenes I've written and cobbling them into a plot and storyline that makes any sort of sense.

I'm not at a place where I can even post anything I think is worthy of review yet so these rules aren't a problem. Plus, I want to review as much or more than I post things for review, so the 2 for 1 stipulation works for me. Do I need to wait to review until I get 20 posts or can I get stuck in once I've posted a bit elsewhere?

These will probably be the places I haunt most at first as the technical aspects of writing in general escape me at times. My own work needs to be tighter in it's form before I feel comfortable posting it anywhere for critical review.

    Thanks for the info!
