Me and a friend argued over this. I said LZ was way better and their music was more powerful. I'm also a big Robert Plant fan. So, who in your opinion was better?
Apples and oranges. Journey was somewhat a formula band, but EXTREMELY talented for ballad rock. Epic. Zepplin was the band that actually went on a Journey; musical, spiritual, and travel. They transcended, taking the literal Stairway to Heaven. They exhausted themselves to the Art, immortal in their mortality. Zep is my all-time favorite, but Journey songs are what I find myself humming out of the blue. "When the lights go down in the city..." And... you just inspired the song and genre for the tuple in my story!! Thanks!
..although I enjoyed Ginger Baker’s description of Moon & Bonham as ‘irrelevant’ or ‘amateurs,’ or similar. Journey don’t really have the same impact over here, like comparing the great JD to one of @CT’s black metal pop bands...hee hee, hee hee hee, hee x
And The Lemon Song, Ramble On, and Bring It On Home. - and all of them Blue Note tunes, officially, but possibly now a hundred years old. Zepplin ushered in a new way to bring old music to rebellious young people. A legacy yet to be repeated imho.
Umm, certainly you sound like a ‘Journey’ man...in my medical opinion. Possibly a course of Ronnie James Dio [tradename]?
Whoever wrote and played Trampled Underfoot. Oh wait...That was Zep... But does it really matter when DIO was better than both? -SIN
Journey for karaoke, Zeppelin everything else except kicking it. Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd for that. ETA: Though, tbh, I'd take ELO over Journey.
Zepplin uber ales! Zep for guys and cool girls. Journey for girls, and guys who want to get laid by those girls. Apples and bananas again. Turned to Stone? Journey and Scorpions both did ballad/arena rock, even though their style was different (Scorps did Glam). ELO and Styxx were in their own class, like The Cars and Blondie - for those two kids down the street that's been together since elementary school and plays it while they shag all night cause they just live together at each other's house for a week at a time, and they party and get along with everybody and even the adults think they're cool and don't remember which parents are whose. The business they started in junior high is still making money.
Journey. Only because of the song Open Arms and the story of a young, drunk Moon adventuring into a closed museum with friends.... Led Zeppelin is great though. Why not both?
Journey for background music, driving, at the roller rink, whatever. Zeppelin if you've got time to listen to the music. Pink Floyd, hands down, if what you're doing for the next hour or six is just listening.
I personally prefer Journey first. Then Bon Jovi & Bryan Adams are all in my top 3. I've personally not really listened to Led Zeppelin much.
Zep by a mile. Greg Rolie's Journey was pretty badass, though. With that being said, neither even sniffs being close to Bon Scott's AC/DC.
I would say Journey. I listened to both religiously when I was a young teenager, and almost 40 years later I can still remember all the words to the Journey songs. Not so much with Zep. In my opinion, the Doors were better than Zep, I can still sing all those songs word for word.
