So, what are your all's simple pleasures? Some off the top of my head are (in no particular order): Eating a beach club from Jimmy John's washed down with a Diet Mountain Dew. A good bowl of tobacco smoked under the stars, when I can just think. Drinking a stellar brew at the end of hard day. Playing video games with my brothers. Conversing with my wife. Putting on a brand new pair of socks.
Simple pleasures... Kicked back on the couch watching a movie or reading a book Sitting at the lake with my brother, fishing pole in one hand, beer in the other That moment when you realize you have nowhere in particular to be and nothing in particular to do
I can agree with this. Sitting down with some coffee, an easy listerning or Jazz CD on, and reading. Spending time with loved ones (Family, Girlfriend, Friends) Going to see bands/comics live. Laying in the backgarden, watching the clouds fly by. Hunting with some friends and some cans of beer.
Simple pleasures. Hmm, some are: ~ Going to theater, watching a movie, play, etc. ~ Watching the sun rise or set *sigh* ~ Daydreaming ~ Getting inspired (by anything) ~ Laughing with friends/family etc. over stupid things ~ Simply listening to music ~ Looking over a landscape (city, plains, etc.) thinking about what others are doing around the world ~ Reading, singing, writing, etc. ~ Making characters for stories There can be lots.
Lying beneath my geraniums Coffee and the "Finest Wines" Beethoven Chilling with the bro-sky Speaking Spanish with random folks... even speaking English with random folks Running
Life's simplest pleasures for me would have to be, sitting down with my kids cuddled up to me watching a movie or anytime we spend together. Always the greatest. and the other would have to be, talking to my loaf on msn.
*Sitting up late at night and watching the stars. *Taking a nap on the couch with my cat. *Getting up early and eating my breakfast in peace.
Oh...I like this thread...I might visit again. The first thing that comes to my mind... Sharing a cigar with my oldest son at night, while looking up at the stars talking about life and the future (we have done this since he was a senior in High School) Hearing my children laugh in the other room...no matter how old they get I will always stop just short of them seeing me and listen to them act silly and carry on. Journaling in the morning...my hair up in a clip, wearing old sweats and and my favorite wore out Gators Teeshirt, I am my most relaxed, it is just me time. Sending a good morning to a special friend while I drink my coffee all is quiet and still. My grandmother's voice ... my Momma's hands ... my brother's laughter. There are so many things...but those are the ones I never take for granted.
the sounds of rain on a tin roof during the night when all is silent snuggled up in a warm blanket, on a cold night, the fire roaring and having a hot coffee while watching a decent horror with all the lights out. hearing my kids run into my room early morn and bash me in the head and scream out WAKE UP MOM!
I left something out... Special hugs with my youngest son...we have had a special hug since he was three, he is 15 now...he still initiates it. I love it!!
Reading a good book! Sitting on my porch in the dark during a thunderstorm, listening and watching. Singing along with a great song on the radio while cruising on down the road.
Dinner and a show in the city (Might not sound like a simple pleasure, but there's something to it for me...hard to explain). Sitting somewhere busy with nothing but a book. The smell of my grandparents' house. Planning a story that you know will be the story, the coolest story, the best thing you've written ever. Walking home from school with a friend. Running through the rain in the middle of the day. A dog. Dancing in the kitchen when no one is home.
Yeah...it's pretty special...and is nothing more than our foreheads touching, kinda like Eskimo kisses without the nose.
Mmm, I like this thread!! Some of life's simple pleasures for me: - Finding money in random places that I didn't remember putting there (jeans pockets!) - Hearing my daughter giggle and laugh - Laying out by the pool in the middle of summer and reading a good book. - Talking with my husband in bed, in the dark for 15 minutes before we fall asleep every night. - Singing at the top of my lungs in my car - Waking up early in the morning and realizing that I don't have to be up for another 3 hours. - Hearing the clip-clop of a horse walking through the aisle of a barn. - The smell outside right before it starts to rain. - Going to lunch with my dad. - That first day of autumn...where you feel a cool breeze and it's so refreshing from the hot summer. That is my favorite thing ever! - Friday-night high school football games - Wrestling with my brother (even though he's now a foot taller than me and can beat me in a second!) - Daily phone calls with my mom. - Getting cards and letters from my friends in the mail. - The smell of cookies/cakes baking. - Running in the early morning in the fall when you can see mist rising off the ground. Everything is so quiet and so perfect. I'm sure I'll come back and add some more to this...but these are definitely some of my favorite things!
The sound of my son laughing. His smile when I come home and he's waiting at the door. Reading a good book, in a silent room while it is snowing.
The energizing rush I feel when talking to the most influential person in my life (not counting my parents, who sort of created me; it's kinda hard to top that) Watching as my characters grow and evolve seemingly on their own Watching a sunset just after the rain stops (the clouds look so beautiful after a rain; ever noticed that?) Stargazing on a clear night That new book smell The smell of woodworking The new low sounds I can reach on a down-tuned guitar (kind of a weird one, I know) Figuring out some complex problem, be it at school or wherever
- Seeing the stars from the Huachuca Mountains in Arizona (seriously, you can even see an arm of the Milky Way with all the gases mixed in and stuff. You can really see it that well ) - Training/walking/playing with my dog (Scout) - Seeing that my dog likes me better than anybody else in the world. - Hearing the purring of my cats. - Talking to/playing with my group of friends. - Playing games on the trampoline. - Playing video games with my siblings and friends (and sometime my dad if he's not busy). - Playing airsoft with my brother and our friends. - Storms!!! Big storms with lots of lightning and thunder and pouring rain. - Being stuck in the basement because of a tornado warning. - Those warm days where all the neighborhood kids are playing outside, the windows are open, the house is quiet, and there's iced tea on the counter. - Fishing with my grandpa. He knows the best fishing spots. Then we fry the fish. - Going to our special meeting places with our friends (though we haven't gotten a chance to find one yet in this neighborhood because of all the stinging nettle in the forest behind our house) - Watching our weekly shows with the family and speculating about what happens next. - Walking to the shoppette with my brother to get a slushie. - Seeing the other corgi across the street that looks like Scout but with no black (and what's cool is that the other corgi's name is Scooter, which sounds a lot like Scout) - Thinking about my future (My brother and two of our friends and I are planning to all live together), as unrealistic as it may be. We've already decided that we're going to live on a farm with a bunch of animals and drive a Humvee. I know... I seriously doubt we'll ever get a Humvee. But let me have my fun anyway. - Hearing my three-year-old sister say funny things. And that's not even half of it...
Laughing is one of the biggest. Being in a group of old friends with a new one and explaining the stories to them. But my favorite at this time is...Sitting on the couch/laying in bed and hearing nothing....it is wonderful.
Getting into a bed with fresh linen on it. Waking up early and realising you can sleep for another hour. For all you people who have seen the advert: the last rolo. The nicest thing I like out of everything is when someone takes a few seconds out of their day to compliment me. I know, vain as hell and whatever, but it just puts a smile on my face for the rest of the day when someone who you might not normally tak to or anything, just says something nice.
