I'm just curious if there is a list of staff members separate from looking through the entire members list. I need to know who to avoid and suck up to. No really, I would like to know who to go to if I have a question. Ok I really do need to know who to stay away from and suck up to...I'm tired of getting banned from places.
Haha! Points for candor! From the main page you'll see the row of button up top. Go to Members> Notable Members. Once you chose that, you'll get a new window with a set of tabs above the list of members you see there. Click Staff. https://www.writingforums.org/members/?type=staff
Ah-ha! I unintentionally discovered an error that needs to be corrected. Do I get a 'Get Out of Jail Free' card?
We try not to heavy-hand it 'round these parts. We make a distinction between the odd slip-up (to which anyone may be prone) and pattern behavior.
thanks for the instructions, wrey... i was wondering the same... still a bit puzzled on one item, though... i get what a 'super moderator' would be/do, but what is the staff job/responsibility of a 'web surfer girl, female'? signed 'clueless in cloud-cuckooland' [aka maia]
She runs the short story contests. Maybe that doesn't make her a bona fide superhero, but she is definitely an agent of SHIELD.
it would be helpful if the 'staff' listings included the duties/responsibilites of the non-moderator 'staff' members like ginger, doncha think?... might as well give them credit for what they volunteered [or were drafted] to do for free... plus, it would provide a clue to what can be asked of them, as well... so, for instance, no one would be pestering ginger for help with any of the other contests, or with issues that only moderators or daniel can deal with...
I agree to an extent, but will only speak for myself in this matter. The blurb under one's name will accept at least two lines of text which should be enough for "job title" and also something personal, but... these totem polls of avi and our name and our badges and other information are garish enough. I'm not personally inclined to add anther stack to mine, so I removed my personal blurb and re-inserted my position.
People can see I'm not a mod and they see my name abundantly redundantly on the short story contest. So I'm not sure how it would be helpful? The only extra thing I can do is in editing the contest sub-forum. In case you were wondering, I don't possess any magical mod powers.
thing is, i'm probably not the only member who never goes to the short story [or any] contest section, so until it was told to me here that you run it, i had no clue to what your 'staff' position is... in asking for the info to be added, i was referring to the 'memorable members/staff' listing, which would be helpful for those like me who want to look up what a person titled 'staff member' does... if i am the only one here, or will ever come to the site, who never goes to any contest section, then i suppose it doesn't matter...
May I then take this opportunity to encourage you to reconsider voting in the contest? We really need more voters.
i appreciate that you're doing your job as a good contest-pusher/manager, gc, but i just don't have the time to spare...
In response to this thread I went ahead and added an FAQ entry under the About section for forum staff: https://www.writingforums.org/faq/staff.68/ It has a short bio for the current staff members. I'll try to keep it updated. It might be worth added a similar section for volunteers, I might do so in the future, thanks for the suggestion.
The only suggestion I have if you've not already done it is make the member list alphabetical rather than by sign up date. On another forum I post on the member list is like a file list, you can sort by name, date registered or number of posts by clicking the header of the columns. Not sure this software supports that option of course. So if I only had one option it would be alphabetical.
I believe you can view/sort the member list alphabetically. Go to the "Members" page in the secondary navigation. On that page click "Registered Members" and it should sort them alphabetically, starting with odd characters, numbers, then A-Z. I don't think you can sort by join date or other factors though.
That's a change from what it was before. Any chance one can skip ahead to a specific letter? Looks like if you want to find the M's you have to do a lot of page clicking.
