So I take a smoke break from DJing last week and find myself talking to a fellow smoker talking about books. She tells me her story about a book that moved her. I ask her has she read The Road by Cormac McCarthy seeing it's one of very few books that moved me; that actually made me cry by the end. Another girl had lit up half way through our talk and says "I've heard of that, what's it about?" "Well" says I "It's post apocolyptic, the dad has to bring his son to the next city for safety" "Is it a true story like?" Myself and the original girl in the conversation try to be polite "No, the world has blown up and they have no food so need to find somewhere in a hurry" "But is it based on a real story?" We both stubbed out our cigarettes and returned inside

Just tell her, yeah, it's based on events shortly after World War III. You can't fix her. But you could be inspired to join the teaching profession. Maybe then you could help a child not grow up like her. Still, not everyone can be bothered to learn.
