I was thinking more like True Grit , or Convoy for that matter (and yes I know john wayne wasn't in that)

I says, "Pig Pen, this here's the Rubber Duck.
"We just ain't a-gonna pay no toll."
So we crashed the gate doing ninety-eight
I says "Let them truckers roll, 10-4.

I realise that if you haven't seen the film or heard the song this will mean nothing ;)

Hah, I am more educated than that! Seen both of them, but the song of Convoy I'll not forget :D

Thank you for reminding of it :cheerleader:

More like a lack of progress journal in the last couple of weeks - I've deleted about 2k words because it wasn't working. Wc is now 82576

I'm not sure what the issue is it could be that since i started taking antidepressants i'm not feeling as creative (and i'm tireder so the all nighters are no more), or it could be because I'm up to the final mission (for this book) and although I know how it ends, I've not given enough considertion to getting from here to the ending scenes

    Still tomorrow is another day

ATW hasnt moved on at all - I seem to lack the inspiration to finish it , however i've been playing with a couple of other things and have added about a thousand words to 'dark fire' (my fantasy wip featuring sell sword and bounty hunter Aidan Darcy who I originally created for the celtic gods rpg), and yesterday and to day I've pantsed about 1500 words of a new thing called " a light in the storm" which was inspired by @Wreybies blog and features a British guy going into a distopian near future fascist America to rescue a gay friend who has been sentenced to a 'treatment' camp (the title comes from the Giotto quote that 'friendship is a bright light even in the darkest storm" )

Any similarity to Wrey and myself in these main characters is obviously entirely coincidental, and its just a matter of happenstance that the american MC lived on PR before he was sent to the camps :D

I've also written a ridiculously hot sex scene for my detective novel 'loose cannon' which may or may not make it into the final draft

I realise its probably not the best idea to have 4 or 5 wips on the go at once, but its where i am - some things just demand to be written

ETA I've also written a first draft of a short story about a guy who takes a hand gun to work intending to kill his arsehole boss, but then finds himself a reluctant hero in the middle of a terrorist outrage. For legal reasons i'd point out that any similarity to my arsehole boss is a total coincidence and that I am definitely not smuggling a hi point 9mm in to the country to resolve my PDR issues with extreme predjudice

What is stealing your inspiration? Are you struggling to write, or is the story just getting redundant due to constant editing and rereads?

I think its because I've got the ending worked out in my head (5 chapters or so) but I need just a little bit more to get to that point and I just haven't been feeling it

So way back in August this was my Wip List

Thief-taker series (cop thrillers set in near future - much more car chase and gunfire than police procedural)

Thief taker (part written), Blue murder, White Knight, Dark motives, Wild Justice (originally written as a short story), Cold Fury, Loose cargo (one very explicit sex scene , don't ask me why) , Hood Rat, Fire bug, dirty money, Ghost riders (one car chase)

The Bad guy trilogy - set in the same setting as thief taker and sharing some of the same minor characters but with a bank robber as the main protag

The Bad guy (first draft written - gestating) , The long ride , as yet untitled third

The Frost range trilogy - Sci fi Fantasy , set on (and off) a fictional planet

Drop team (outlined) , Frost range (outlined) , Rubicon

The after the wave series - set in the UK 50 years after an epidemic has decimated the world population - the survivors are (naturally) fighting each other over what remains

After the wave (outlined and part written though the writing doesn't much resemble the outline) , Code of Honour (outlined)

Cleanskins - a short story (partly written)

Teaching sheep to count - my autobiography (1 chapter and a couple of blogs written before I lost interest , - I need to resolve the how do I write about xyz person being a jerk without getting sued before I pick it up again)

    --

Progress in the last five months has taken 'after the wave' to 83k words where it is currently stalled

I have also made some progress on 'the bad guy' and rewritten the first two chapters of thief taker, and added another filthy sex scene to loose cargo

    and started two more WIPs

Dark Fire - a fantasy about a band of sell sword bounty hunters, lots of violence with medieval weaponry, based of the character of Aidan I created for the celtic gods role play - about 5k written, plus a short story which may or may not wind up as the prologue

The Darkest storm - A british bloke (who in no way resembles me) goes to a near future distopian america to rescue his gay friend (who in no way resembles @Wreybies) who has been consigned to 'the camps' as a deviant requiring treatment for his 'condition' - first three chapters written, so far the MC has arrived in PR beaten the shit out of a band of neo nazi bikers and discovered his friend has been shipped to the mainland.

Plus I've written about 3k words of a short story called ' the spillover' where an accident with the lunar hadron collider causes the internet to become manifested in real life, e.g a city square is now randomly fullof dancing badgers going badgerbadgerbadger ... forums are now large buildings filled with people debating whatever subject, and people have been mutated into whatever their user names suggest. e.g in WF towers chicken freak is now actually a chicken - she roams the halls going book, book, book... tenderiser is wandering about with a large meat hammer, matt has become half lupine and so on. The moderators have become a sort of ban hammer wielding judge dredd police force fighting a loosing battle against an incursion of trolls. The story follows a new moderator on his first day on the job (this was for the Jan short story contest but I didn't finish it in time). I think i'll probably park this for good as its just a tad too weird

ETA : also ive got a massive millitary adventure idea , refighting the winter war with modern weaponry - ie Russia invades finland, the nato powers refuse to honour their treaty comitments, but a mixed bag of americans, brits, norgies etc go to stand with the finns as mercenaries (a bit like the international brigade in the spanish civil war). This is currently a random outline and isnt actually titled (for filing purposes its called "ice cold in helsinki" but that title won't see the light of day )

ETA2 I also have a random idea rattling about in my head "smallholding in the zombie apocalypse, a guide" fuck knows what if anything i'll do with that

Just think what i could achieve if I focused on one thing at a time
