I know, I've been asking a lot of questions lately, but I'm going through the editing process with a real editor for the first time, and I'm having trouble. I'll be sure to thank everyone who helped once the book is out. Anyway, I'm being asked to come up with a more "magical" or at least a more interesting name for a disguising potion. I'm with her on that, but am at a loss for what. It's a potion that is mostly made of plants and such, but you add the blood of a special type of bird and the blood of another type of animal/humanoid species and you look like one of that species for a few days.
So you've got blood of herb, blood of bird, and blood of man... "Sappy bloody changey potion OF DEATH!!!" "Fascimilitae"
Could you be a bit more specific on the type of potion it is? For example, is it more evil, or more good? An evil potion could have a name like Mugralis, while a nice happy fairy potion could have a name like, Lathlorees/Lathloris. Even such a potion as the one you described could be more focused on either good or evil. Eg, In the disney movie, The Little Mermaid, the potion that gives Ariel human legs seems pretty evil.
Like any magic, it's only good or evil depending on who uses it. In The Little Mermaid, that spell was only evil because the witch was evil.
Fungalblooditisbegone *shug* Rei, i'm sure i speak for all that we love your and most peoples qustions!
Thanks, Speedy. And I mean that about thanking all of you when the book comes out. If I make it through the editing process.

I always like the idea of having your own mythology/settings Editors may not Examples "Shroud of the West" (Say if the west was known for high mountain rangers and mist) "Cloak of the owl (If it was known that there was a dark brotherhood and their emblum was the owl) etc
The concern I would have Rei, is that if magic is prevalent, and it is broken down into different areas, naming a type of spell or potion would have a way or method of being named. It is difficult to come up with a name for me to suggest (other than random ideas that sound good and related to the potion's properties/effects) without knowing the context of the story and where magic stands with respect to it. I hope that makes sense. With that in mind, what might help is to consider just like for example how animals have scientific names but also common names, so might potions or spells in your world. For example with a particular type of turtle: Common name: Red Ear Slider Scientific NameTrachemys scripta elegans The magical formal names used by the creaters of the potions, and more of a slang term used by regular folks might work with your world, and add some depth and character. One would have to be in on the 'magical know' to understand the magical terminology for the potion, but the common folks would describe it by effects the potion produces. Red-eared slider describes what the turtle looks like, where the scientific breaks it down to genus, species/subspecies. (You know, remembering from biology: Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species). Anyway, just a thought I had while pondering your question. Terry
