    Murder Thriller Idea

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by rktho, Oct 9, 2017.

An insane writer sees the world as a story he is the writer of; the people he interacts with are characters, the place where he lives is the setting, and the protagonist is a random guy he stalks. The writer is in the "editing process" of his story, which means he has to kill a few darlings-- quite literally. Merge these characters. Cut this plot point. And above all, make sure the protagonist ends up with the intended love interest, because he's dating the wrong person, darn it! That's not how the story goes! So basically, this person is trying to play God and committing all the relevant crimes associated with such an endeavor. And at each crime scene, he leaves an edited copy of each chapter, narrating everything that happens in it as if he is the author telling a story he created, full of strikethroughs and rewrites that reflect the rough draft vs the current one. So between every chapter in the real world is a chapter out of the psycho's novel, where the characters have the exact same names and traits and stuff. He never mentions himself because he is supposed to be the author, not a character, and he's not very literal because then he'd have to confess to all the murders, because he was there. So he just leaves all the murders out, because those victims are just deleted characters. He commits arson to get rid of locations, and when possible, destroys records of events (scenes) that he wants cut so that they never happened.

I feel like it'd be a tricky write but I'd love to see someone pull it off.

Interesting... you wouldn't happen to know which of his works that would be, do you?
