    My Dumb Progress Journal

Discussion in 'Progress Journals' started by Oscar Leigh, Oct 21, 2018.

I tried one of these before but nothing much came of it and the idea before didn't work out(although I wouldn't discount the possibility of coming back to it some day eventually).
So here's a new progress journal for my current WIP. I have more progress on it than I had before, I have most of chapter I done. I also have a heckload of notes and research because it does involve relatively complex history.
If anyone is interested I have a thread for my scene, named after the first chapter "The Queen's Pygmy". I do intend to publish an updated version of that bit since I have continued to update it. I will also publish others scenes I have written soon after a bit more editing maybe.
    Cheers for any assistance!

Everyone has his or her way of working. I share mine. Don't know if it helps or not, but let's try.

I do big part of structural work first. It has:
    - Character papers. Those are 6-7 pages long and concentrate to motivation and it's base. Current 12 character papers make 80 pages.
    - Plot & structure. Do your own beat sheet that contains everything you need plus some.
    - Clip board. I collect all I find and might need here.
    - Storyworld. Do it well. Do it psychologically constant. Pay attention to institutions & socio-emotional space.
    - Comments. If you invent a good comment you can use later, you write it here.
    - Synopsis and material that supports it. If you keep it separate form plot & structure it is easier to test ideas and subplots.
    - Idea papers. You pick ideas. Use them, save them, destroy them...
    - Information source folder. You pick your sources here.

If you find that useful you can do your own variation of it.

Yeah, I like to be a bit of improv especially with specific narration and dialogue but a solid plan is good to start. I continue to take notes and planning on it.
I don't have a sources folder so I'll consider that...

So I think I have a final idea, after some belated info that forced a redirection and fiddling about preferences, on Essex's introduction scene, which is the end of the first chapter. And I got a start on the opening for the second chapter while I was figuring out how to redesign the Essex scene. Got some decent progress now and feeling confident again of speedy progress in the future now the interruption is over, and I will have more time now.
I also have loads on notes not that that counts as such.

I decided to add a longer prelude in the introduction scene, before moving straight to the audience. I originally had a prelude then removed it for extraneousness, but I'm taking a different tack this time. Want to establish a greater sense of goals and possible tension because the audience scene, as people have pointed out, is rather passive and linear.

Haven't updated this much but I now have 3468 words along with all the notes and planning. My first chapter is completed, except for some editing, and is 3362 words.

I have 3772 words of actual text now. Trying to finish the first scene of chapter two with Essex's introduction, and then I can finish what I started with Queen Elizabeth's first POV scene as well as the stuff between. And then I'll have two actual chapters! Hooray! See how long that takes.

For those interested a reminded I do have the first two scenes of my chapter available in the workshop and I've certainly got room for feedback.

Link or forum-subforum- thread -route would be fine,

There are 7 forums and 16 subforums and God knows how many threads.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. As I could link it on here or put them together in some sub-forum together like a folder?

Link here or something that makes it very easy to find it.

    Like this:

Home => Workshop => Novels => Updated Introduction- Son of Cecil

    or

    https://www.writingforums.org/threads/updated-introduction-son-of-cecil.161641/#post-1761077

so that it's easy to find it and to go there.
