A sonnet I entered into the 2016 Pennwriters contest came away with the first prize, and now have my paperwork. I found out about this last July, and I think I put something about it on the Happiness thread. But I wanted to save the official announcement on this thread for when I actually had my certificates in my sweaty little hands, and that happened this past Thursday. Without them, I didn't quite believe it. (I've blurred out my real name on the documents, for privacy) All I need to do now is find out how to cash in the voucher for conference admission next May. Oh, yeah: And keep writing.
Oh wonderful! Congratulations! But...but...you didn't post THE POEM in this thread for me to admire it...
GOOD WORK! GREAT TO SEE WRITER FROM THE SAME STATE DOING GOOD WORK! AND WRITING AWESOME POEMS TO WIN CONTESTS!
No, sorry. Stupid's what happens when I post online after stripping lead paint with a heatgun half the evening. I put it up on the Workshop here a year or two ago, but I'm too lazy to find the link. Here ya go: Above the hills in sweet, bliss-drunken flight A songbird dives and wheels, its voice its wing Its heart outburst in supple soaring song That rives and heals in piercing joy and long. Someday, some day you'll go to hear it sing And with it rise, against your coming night. Above the hills, the golden moon sets sail So close you'd reach and stay it with your hand: A ship to carry dreams, a cup to sip To slake the drought of dusty world and slip Its strand. Some night you'll climb those hills and stand And hold the moon and drink deep of its grail. Till then, you have the streetlamp's pale pretense And sparrows haggle on your garden fence.
Congrats! That's great news. It's been forever since I've entered a competition. Maybe I should do it again soon. NaNoWriMo's got me busy though. Work, Work, Work.
