    Name for Gods?

Discussion in 'Character Development' started by Adam Bolander, Aug 8, 2020.

In my new story, alchemists have found a way to liquidize literally everything you can think of. And not just physical objects, but abstract concepts like knowledge, wisdom, mercy, and emotion. Their religion has them create their own gods by mixing chemicals together that would produce the kind of personality they want to rule them. So their gods are basically giant vats of living, sentient liquid.
I need a name for them. I'm thinking something that refers to the fact that they were created, mixed together, or whatnot. The best I have now is "The Amalgamated" but I don't really like that. Any suggestions?

God names should be short and easy to remember, so how about:
Ozac (Oxygen, bringer of life on dead planets)
Algor (gold Alchemy, wealth and greed)
    Narez (Natrium, war and fire)
Zufal (Sulfur, celestrial sun god of clarvoyance)

Holy crap I dont know if my brain read ahead of my eyes or not but while I was reading I totally thought of The Amalgamate. So I like that. I dont like Amalgamated. Amalgamate sound almost like Senate and has the feel of a group of powerful individuals.

Anyway, I like what you have going on for sure.

What you describe (liquidisation of everything) is remniscient of the "Universal Solvent", which in turn was one of many great "Alchemical Pursuits" like the philosopher's stone. The universal solvent was said to be able to break down any material into its liquid components.

Paracelsus called the Universal Solvent the Alkahest. You could spin some Latin around that word and have the name of a God. EG, Alkasius, Alkasus, Alkahestia ... so on.

    The Substance, maybe?

The Blood, the Quintessence, the Elixir?

I think if gods are vats of sentient liquid, you might want to look at something based on that. Anyway:
    https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/elixir
You might want to use something based on the above: Chymas, Chynetai ("Poured"), Cythikaoi ("Chythikan Theoi" - "Poured Gods"), Ygroi ("Liquid"), Ygroioi ("Ygroi Theoi" - "Liquid Gods"). - note that I used Google Translate here and modern Greek, so you may or may not want to use these forms.

BTW, you have symbol of amalgamation here at page 15:
