    Name for Superhero?

Discussion in 'Character Development' started by Adam Bolander, Feb 18, 2020.

I have a character in my story whose power is to steal and use other people's superpowers. At first I was going to call him Copycat, but that doesn't seem to fit anymore since the other people on his team have big dramatic names like Imperion, Paragon, and Justifique. Any suggestions? I know the other names aren't really symbolic of their powers, but I'd like for his to be. The names I've come up with myself are:

    Confiscator
    Arrogator/ter
    Contra
(meaning "in opposition to," as in he uses other people's powers against them)
    Commandeer

Personally, if I were a superhero, I wouldn't have a name that advertises my abilities to my enemies.

Or maybe Severus, as in he severs people from their powers...then again, people might read that and immediately assume he was from Harry Potter.
At this point in the story, they're basically the Justice League, so everyone knows what they can do anyway.

I actually really like that, but I think I'll use that for the kid who has the same power who he's training to replace him.

Fair enough, but you can only beat up so many badguys before they all know what your powers are.
Mimic? That may already be an X-men character.

Slightly sidetrack question, but how does this power work? When you say steal, do they lose it permanently? Does he gain it permanently?
On names, the Leech comes to mind, but that might be too edgy for a Justice-League-esque team.

Well, I think a lot of superheroes are given their names by others who witness their powers, so thy don't really have much control over the outcome. They just ended up with it.

You beat me to it. Damn you! Who can resist the undeniable power of the insurmountable beast known as Ted?!

    How about this:
    • Moonlight --> As in, a power that is a reflection in the way moonlight is a reflection of sunlight
    • Hunger --> Craving for the power of another
    • Replicant --> A little obvious, but might fit in your list of names

What’s the term for a harmless animal that mimics a dangerous one?

    Dramatic names + something?

Well... That one works best if it's not dramatic, similar or bombastic.

    Kopsu?
    Hipsu?
    Scoundrellina?
    Magsy?
    Ilse Baal?
    Mimmi C.?

A female could be DupliKate or RepliKate. Kind of silly, including her actual name though.

Karma. (Because he beats villains up with their own powers.)
    In a similar vein, Payback.
    Jacker.
Powerjack. Or Jack Power. Or he calls himself Powerjack and his real name is Jack Power.
