    Name that setting!!!

Alright, so compared to others, this probably isn't too hard a question to answer, especially for those who know history.

I'd like suggestions for a time and place in which farming was prominent, and so was disease. Medicinal science hadn't advanced far, hell, neither had any real science.

I'm thinking Black Plague, but I'd like other suggestions.

    Thanks.

Which country? Industrial Revolution in the UK was 1750 so anything before that. Tudor era is fun. How about reading Cadfael? (detective monk apothercary) - he was around 1150+ so crusades, first English civil war etc

Just about any society right after it graduates from the hunter/gatherer stage.
