Names of Software Controls: Text boxes, check boxes, etc.

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by lostinwebspace, Sep 7, 2011.

How do we punctuate controls in a program? For example, if someone says, "Now, click on the 'security' tab, then the 'password' textbox..." How do we punctuate that?

Enclose it in quotation marks? ("security" tab)
Italicize it? (very doubtful) (security tab)
    Capitalize it? (Security tab)
Leave it as regular text? (security tab)
A combination of the above? ("Security" tab)

Thanks for the response! Does the same go for keys? "Enter" key, "tab" key, "A" key, etc.
