Hello All, I am looking for beta readers for my novel. I have asked a few friends and co-workers. However they are not coming back to me as quickly as I would like. what is the procedure here finding some readers for feedback on here? Any advice would be helpful
I'll get the popcorn, because I'm going to have the same question soon. What's the theme/genre/blurb for your novel?
This is why I need beta readers, I'm not sure how to categorise it. Blurb in progress, trying to not put spoilers.
Golf for it. Sci-fi? Fantasy? Mystery? Romance? One or two of those combined? You're a writer, and you can't describe your story? I'm suspicious...
It's about three friends who encounter a mysterious stranger one night, leaving one of them in hospital and the ensuing journey to find out why they were attacked. The more they discover, the more they find out about their own tragic lives and how to deal with personal demons and find themselves in a battle to save the world.
Hi @Thaddaeus English & @J.D. Ray There's a whole forum dedicated to collaboration, including beta reading, editing etc. I haven't ventured there yet. https://www.writingforums.org/collaboration/
I’ve seen that forum, and haven’t seen any evidence that anyone undertakes beta reading in there. Most of the threads seem to be along the lines of “ us anyone interested in beta-reading my novel?”
People usually reply by PM. I've done many beta reads based on requests there, and people have beta read for me.
I don’t know what it takes to post there. Have you put much effort into the Workshop section, offering critiques of others’ works?
Yeah I believe so, probably not enough though. No worries I'll just have to wait for a bit till I've done enough
Yeah only members who've been here for 90 days and made 100 posts may participate in the Collaboration Forum. On this forum, the easiest way is usually to make friends on the boards and that way you might find people who'd be interested in your genre. You can always PM and ask. After 100 posts, you can start using the collaboration sub-forum, or alternatively start a progress journal which is also a nice way to become part of the community. If you don't have the time or the patience, you could also try Twitter. The writing community there is huge, after all.
