Nepenthos, my first novel, is published!

Discussion in 'Success Stories' started by Rosacrvx, Aug 8, 2020.

My first novel, Nepenthos, written in Portugese, is published! In paper and ebook.
This is a moment of self-fulfilment like I‘ve never experienced before. Ten years writing the novel plus another year to work on the design. Except for the cover image, which I ordered from an artist, the entire book was made by me. From the cover design to the typography. (What’s the name of this? I’m sure there’s another name for this, doing the pages.).
I was told I should come here trumpet my success, and indeed I do deserve it!
If you had seen the first draft and if you could read it now!

I invite anyone interested to venture into the book’s page and click on the arrow below the book. That will give you the book preview.

Below that there’s an icon of an open book. Click it and you’ll see the full cover preview.
All done by yours truly. I don’t think it looks anything but professional.
But it is the content that matters and I’m so sorry I can’t share it with you English speaking people. I realised that translating was robbing me of time to write new originals. I had to make a choice.
Any Portuguese speakers around here, you’re welcome to read the synopsis and explore the book.

"Nepenthos" is a drama in Low Fantasy, heavy and realistic, sometimes uncomfortable, but with a lot of romantic tones.

I’m now working on the promotion, but to be honest I have more originals to finish and that’s my first priority. Nothing promotes a book like publishing another book.
Even so, I expect I’ll be having more time to visit the forum from now on.

    Congrats!

Any plans to release it in English for the N. American market?

Really striking cover design, DD. The image conveys quite a lot about the book's content. That it's fantasy. That the main character is a woman. And the name of the book and the name of the author without a lot of other 'noise.' If I was in a bookshop and saw it, I would definitely pick it up to have a look.

I can only imagine how pleased you must be. Here's hoping it takes Portugal (and Brasil) by storm! :)

It looks great! As for us being able to read it in English, check out what Joanna Penn says on her podcasts about AI translation. It's getting more and more accurate all the time, so maybe in a couple of years . . . ?

Congrats! That is one of the better cover designs that I've seen! Good job and good luck!

    Thank you, everybody!

The cover image is not mine, but I've done the cover design myself (as well as the rest of the book). I'm very proud of that too.
I'm more proud of finishing and publishing the novel, though. ;)

Congrats ....I hear you on the translation, I’ve spent a lot of time getting my book translated and now it sets in my inbox waiting for a final edit. Who knew it would take forever. Anyway, I hope you get enough readers to give you courage to translate to English.

I hope that your book has had great success, and would love to see what sorts of things you've worked on in the time after!
