    New again!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by luvs2wolf64, May 8, 2009.

    Hello, everyone!

As the title suggests, I am an old member signing up with a new account and would like to introduce myself again. To begin with, I think I joined in November of 2006 and was only a member for a little over a month before I started having regular problems with my internet and didn't log in for quite some time. When I came back a few months later, I couldn't remember my username or password and no longer had access to the email address I used to set up the account. Anyway, if any of the following sounds familiar, now you know why!

So, I'm a 45 year-old married mother of three, and these days everybody calls me Wolf, Luvs, or Linder. For future references, I got the name Wolf because I was profoundly addicted to the first-person shooter game Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and for the past few years I've used the name luvs2wolf64 for just about every account I have. As for my writing preferences and experience, I majored in English grammar and creative writing. I've been a novelist for for over thirty years, and I now collaborate with others in a writer's guild I "own" on another website. I'm a mentor for several high school students who are planning a career in creative writing, and there's nothing more rewarding than knowing your student--or writing partner(s)--is well on the road to publishing. I tend to write the same genres I read, which is usually fantasy-horror, medieval/historical romance, and thrillers. And as you may have guessed, I am extremely long-winded.

Well, thanks for reading and have a great weekend!

Hello Linder, Welcome back to the Writing Forums.

Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize constructive critique as a vital writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
