Hey everyone, I'm new here. New to the whole writing thing too. I know its a bit strange probably, most people here have most likely been writing for years, but the only writing I've ever done was in forum RPs. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to write, but never did. So now I'm doing it, but hoping for a little guidance. I'm working on my first story already, not too happy with how its coming out, but I suppose your first story can't be a masterpiece. I have a blog where I'll be sharing my story as a writer. www.scottwritesthoughts.blogspot.com, but hopefully I'll be posting my stories here for you guys to see so no need to rush over there. Anyway, I look forward to sharing my writing here, learning from you all, and hopefully making some new friends.

Yo Scott, and welcome. I'm new here too, but it's an active community ready to help out. I'm sure you'll do well at whatever you're working on. Something I read here the other day (forgot who posted, but the message stuck) is that the first million words are just to find your rhythm and style, and after that you can start the real writing. Now, that's not to be taken literally, but it's something to consider; writing anything at all is gonna take you one step closer to where you need to be, whether you think it's good or not. And trust me, if you're just starting to write then there'll be things that look good in the now but are no bueno in retrospect. Don't get discouraged. Always trudge on. It may be a journey, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel. You got the balls to go the distance?
Allo, Scott! I'm new to the Writing Forums as well, but not so much new to writing. My friend, who is also a writer, says, "It's just like any other extracurricular activity. You need to warm up. Think in terms of cheerleading. If you go for the high kick without warming up, you put yourself at risk of dislocation and ripping a hamstring. As a writer, you put yourself at risk of disorder and weak narrating." I've found that comment to be more than true. It's almost synonymous with how we tend to write like our favorite authors after just having read their work. Things start to flow and words come naturally. Anyway, I'll look forward to your posts. Hey Scott, I'm a newbie from here and writing too I've only started writing maybe six months ago? The biggest thing I guess about writing is the grammar and the tenses but I am finding it easier as time goes. Anywho enough of me rambling. Welcome.

I always wanted to write but never had the confidence until I recieved a few positive comments on a piece I wrote about a journey I made last year, it is the first piece of writing that I have shared and can't wait to share some more. Welcome to Writing Forums, Scott! I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing. This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work. However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing. Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills. If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself, Cogito, Lemex and Dante Dases) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here. Banzai
Thanks for welcoming me and the words of encouragement/advice. I'm about to get to my writing for the day, and I'm hoping that I'll be about 1/3 of the way through my first short story by the end of the day. It'll have to wait 2 weeks and 20 posts before you can see it, but I think that might be a good thing because I know it will take some time for me to edit and polish it. I look forward to sharing though.
