What significance does your name have?

    And why is it significant?

    Uh, your user name?

In that case mine is Saya. Duh. I thought it up to use in one of my stories and joined my first forum the next day with it. It kind of stuck. It was only later that I read "Dragon Sword and Wind Child" and hte main character's name was Saya. :p Of ocurse, I pronoucne it 'say-uh' not 's-eye-uh' like you would for the girl in that book (Japenese btw).

When my Dad first saw me, he said I looked like a Danny. So they named me Daniel and just called me Danny. Which eventually got shortened to Dan.

Ashley- Rumor has it that my mom named me after a male on one of her favorite soap operas. She is such a classy lady haha
It technically means-A place name and surname from the Old English words 'æsc' (ash) and 'leah' (wood). This name transferred from surname to male first name but in recent decades has become increasingly popular for girls.(fyi-I am a girl)

    Ehhh

    Zoe

    Is greek for 'life'

I suppose at the end of the 'names dictionary', the author became tired and began sticking to one word answers.

My name was a compromise between my parents and my grandparents. When my mom was pregnant, both my grandmothers wanted me named after my grandfathers. But my parents weren't wild about "Lyle" or "Elijah John" so throughout the pregnancy they told everyone that if I was a girl I would be "Tushinello Wolfenpickle" or if I was a boy I would be "Herman Capichino" (this is how it was told to me). So when I was born and they named me "Jason Alexander" (after greek mythology) my grandmothers where so happy that they never made one complaint about not being named after my grandpas.

'maia' is a greek word meaning:
    great mother
    little mother
    midwife
    witch

and it's the brightest star in the pleiades, named after the eldest of the goddess pleiades, mother of hermes, by zeus... and granddaughter of gaea, the earth goddess...

My name (Mallory) was a compromise that my parents made. My mother wanted to name me Beatrice, but our family would have disowned her. My father wanted to name me Dawn Joy, because my mother's name is Dawn and he said I brought him a lot of joy. But my mother refused to have her child named after two brands of dish soap. So somehow they decided that they both liked Mallory and they went with that.

Mallory means "unfortunate" in French and "bad things" in Italian. Good choice, Mom and Dad. I like my name, though, despite the negative connotations.
