    Whats harder?

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by kablooblab, Feb 18, 2012.

What do you think is more difficult. Painting in what your opinion would be the perfect picture. Or writing what in your opinion would be the perfect book?

'Perfection' is pretty subjective. In my opinion, the perfect book has already been written: Paradise Lost by John Milton.

That's hard to say. They'd both be extremely difficult, and its hard to compare writing to painting. My opinion would be somewhat biased, since I've read a lot of books and written a few stories myself, but I don't know heads or tails about painting.

I have to go with painting. It looks so simple until you actually try.

Definitely painting. It only has one scene you need to occupy your mind with.

Painting. I know how to write, but making paint fall in a pretty way is a lot more complicated than running a pencil around.

it all depends on your level of skills in each art medium...

writing a book would obviously take longer than completing a painting, if you're equally skilled, but that doesn't mean it's any more difficult, only more time consuming...

I think that painting the perfect picture would be more rewarding.

Painting. This time last year I was living with an artist and even what he would refer to as "amateur" I considered brilliant. I don't have any skill in that department whatsoever -- I'm better with photography, film and the digital editing of both (all of this actually relates to my current job) -- so of course, to me, it seems like a much more difficult craft.

Leaving aside the difficult idea of perfection for a minute and thinking in terms of the achievement of excellence...pretty much this.

I don't and can't paint: the works of the masters seem like the creations of aliens. (The fridge magnet daubs of competent kids usually leave me a touch envious..)

I write a little to a reasonable standard: the works of the masters seem, if not doable, then at least not wholly alien in their excellence.
