    Hello, fellow writers!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by bassbonediva, Jan 9, 2012.

    Hi, I'm new here...obviously. lol

A little about myself...I'm 29-years-old, work at Goodwill as a cashier, read and write stories in my spare time (not that I have that much spare time lol), and my other passion is horses. I have a 7-year-old son (who will be eight next month) who loves reading as much as I do and is already into chapter books (he's read Treasure Island, The Time Machine, and Tom Sawyer so far). As for my other passion/hobby, I have a 2.5-year-old green broke Percheron/paint cross gelding named Buenos Aires (we call him Aires for short, pronounced like "Aries," the Greek god of war) who is absolutely amazing...and huge. lol We trail ride right now whenever we get the chance, but he is eventually going to be my eventing horse, as well as hunters, team sorting (or ranch sorting, depending on where you're from), western pleasure...basically anything we CAN do, we will. I also have a 4-year-old australian shepherd/st bernard mix dog named Cash who I have had since he was ten-months-old.

A little about my writing...I have been writing since I was probably nine-years-old. Writing is an escape for me. I become engrossed in my characters and actually "become" them. I constantly have a story spinning through my head. I write mainly science fiction/fantasy, but I also write A LOT of fan fiction. My biggest fault with writing is that I can never seem to finish something before my mind flits off to some other story. My mom likes to say that I have writing ADD. :p I am currently working (kind of) on a novel that I hope to get published one day. I have been working on it, in one form or another, since I was in high school. I presented it to my Independent Writing: Fiction teacher in college, who loved it, but thought it could be developed differently, so it changed tracks then. When I finally went back to explore it, I loved the idea, but hated the actual writing and it ended up morphing into something completely different, but with the same basic plot. I'm now about a third of the way done with it, but with everything else going on in my life, I have a hard time concentrating on it. I'm hoping that being on this forum can help me focus more and actually get it done. The plot line is already established, I know where I want to go and the general way I'd like to get there...I just need to sit down and do it. I just find myself staring at it or getting distracted by other stuff when I try to work on it.

Anyway, that's a bit about me.

    Welcome to Writing Forums, bassbonediva!

I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing.

This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work.

However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing.

Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills.

If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself and Cogito) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here.
